Petersen & Smith Win Dogwood

The final round of the Dogwood State Junior Championship featured 18 girls that made the 36 hole cut. Four girls held a share of the lead at some point during the wild final round. Natalie Petersen of Holly Springs, N.C. started the round with a lead one stroke lead but by the time she got to the 10^th tee Kathryn Carson of Mooresville, N.C. and Rachel Kuehn of Ashville, N.C. had joined her at the top of the leaderboard. “I thought I was tied at the turn so I knew I had to get it going on the back side,” Petersen said. On a another hot summer day in North Carolina, 166 players teed it up for round 2 of the 12th Dogwood Junior State Championship, including 129 boys and 37 girls. After 36-holes the field will be cut to low 60 and ties for the boys and 18 and ties for the girls. The second round included a two hour inclement weather suspension that forced play late into the night and will be concluded Thursday morning. Kuehn & Childress Take Dogwood Lead Junior

Faced with hot and humid weather, Michael Childress of Salisbury, N.C. was able to come out firing and shot an impressive round of 68, four-under-par. Even more impressively, he was able to shoot four-under-par on his back nine after shooting even on the front side.
