Stephen Garfield Hinshaw, 70, passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2013, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Mr. Hinshaw was born in Yadkin County to the late Wendell and Lucy Hinshaw. A graduate of East Carolina University, he was employed by IBM for 25 years.

Steve had a life-long passion for golf, through which he created many of his lasting friendships. He served on the board of directors of the Country Club of North Carolina and was a past president of the Carolinas Golf Association.

In a rematch of the 2011 Carolinas Interclub Finals, Fort Mill Golf Club defeated Bentwinds Country Club by a score of 16.5 to 7.5.  This is Fort Mill’s second Interclub Championship; capturing the crown in 2011 at Mid-Pines Inn and Golf Club.

The 2013 Carolinas Interclub Championship Finals is a rematch of the 2011 affair with Bentwinds Golf and Country Club from Fuquay-Varina, NC facing Fort Mill Golf Club of Fort Mill, SC.

Fort Mill won the 2011 title by a narrow 26-22 score.

To advance to the finals, Bentwinds beat Lincoln Country Club 20-16 and Fort Mill defeated Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation 22-14.

The finals are set for November 16-17 at Sedgefield Country Club’s Dye Course in Greensboro, NC. Four-Ball matches will be played on Saturday followed by singles matches on Sunday...

Four teams have made it to the semi-finals of the 2013 CGA Interclub Championship. In the East Regionals, Bentwinds CC (Fuquay-Varina, NC) took on the Anderson Creek GA (Spring Lake, NC) on Saturday October 26 and won convincingly 29-7. Taking 12 of 18 points at home, Bentwinds Paul Gurney and Matt Witosky won all three matches and 6 points to lead their team. The "Elite 8" is set. On Saturday (October 19), Anderson Creek (Spring Lake, NC) met The Crossings (Durham, NC) and came away with a 21 to 15 win. AC's Allen Hanslovan teamed up with Francis Debois to take all 6 points after both players posted 72 over Greg Democko and McGr2egor Paul on their home course.
