WEST END, NC—The title is wide open at the 17th North Carolina Four-Ball Championship at River Run Country Club in Davidson, N.C. 

Defending champions Jason Robinson of Charlotte and Logan Harrell of Huntersville are not able to defend.  Among the 68 teams entered this year, only 2011 champs David Donavan and Jonathan Miles, both of Hampstead, are returning.

William “Bill” D. Johnson, 73, passed away suddenly on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. He was born on November 9, 1939, in Port Huron, Mich., to William A. Johnson and Seniea W. Johnson.

Bill grew up in Marysville, Mich. He graduated from Marysville High School and attended college at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor for 3½ years.

The 1st round of the 2013 CGA Interclub Championship playoffs is complete. 16 teams have advanced to the 2nd round, including last year’s Champions River Hills CC from Lake Wylie, SC. Other past champions advancing include last year’s runner-up Fort Mill GC (2011), and River Run CC (2003).

Team Highlights from Round 1:

Mill Creek GC (Mebane NC) and River Ridge GC (Raleigh NC) was the only match to tie. The playoff lasted 2 holes with River Ridge advancing.
