Fort Mill wins second Carolinas Interclub Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. –– Final results following singles matches at 2013 Carolinas Interclub Championship Finals at Sedgefield Country Club (Dye Course) in Greensboro, N.C. on Sunday, November 17, 2013.

In a rematch of the 2011 Carolinas Interclub Finals, Fort Mill Golf Club defeated Bentwinds Country Club by a score of 16.5 to 7.5.  This is Fort Mill’s second Interclub Championship; capturing the crown in 2011 at Mid-Pines Inn and Golf Club.

Fort Mill Golf Club, from Fort Mill, S.C., was represented by playing captain Terry Lynn, Jody Stegall, Tom Sullivan, Rory Rashkover, Ron Hampton, Dan Page, David Wyatt, Tyler Mackar, Dave Sturick, Mike Trull, Jackson Windell, Michael Jones, Ray Racer, Jr., Rick Fricke, Jamie Lightsey, and Mike Granger.

Bentwinds Country Club, from Fuquay-Varina, N.C., was represented by captain Matt Stone and Evelyn Kinlaw, Steven Hamby, Julian Burton, Jamie Mullane, Joel Marmion, Arnie Bullock, Paul Gurney, Currie Tee Howell, Matt Witosky, Mike Ring, David Walters, Mike Singletary, Jim Stevens, Dallas Goldston, Chad Goldston, Michael Doak, and David Lipscomb.

The Carolinas Interclub Championship is the culmination of a single elimination playoff process following regular season qualifying. This year’s playoffs involved 33 teams with the final two clubs earning their way to compete in the championship match at Sedgefield Country Club (Dye Course) in Greensboro, N.C. The finals involve 16 players from each club competing in both singles and four-ball match play over two days. Each match is worth 1 point with a total of 24 points up for grabs. 12.5 points are needed to win the championship.

Interclub competition begins with team applications in March, with regular season play from May through August. For more information on the Interclub Championship please visit the CGA Interclub website.
