David Gee of Hickory and John John Santospago of Charlotte  are the round one leaders of the 24th NC Junior Boys’ 14 and Under Championship hosted at Asheboro City Golf Course in Asheboro, N.C. They both managed to take the advantage of their abilities on the par-4’s to sign off on 1-under-par, 69 scorecards.

On Tuesday Gee opened his first round with a promising birdie on No.1 to add some fuel to his fire. Gee would remain 1-under-par through the first three holes, when he walked off the par-5 fifth green he would go to 2-under-par.

However Gee could not maintain his subpar as he completed the first loop at Asheboro City Golf Course. He would give up two shorts on Nos. 5 and 8 to finish his outward nine with an even-par score.

On Gee’s second loop around the Donald Ross original, he would sink six par putts to set him on track to earn a spot in the leaders pairing on Wednesday morning with the Charlotte native. In addition to his six no harm no help pars on his inward nine, Gee would capitalize on the par-4’s Nos. 11 and 17.

Santospago would almost mirror Gee’s performance, firing off a 1-under-par on his outward nine and an even-par on his back-nine.  Santospago would find three birdies on his opening round on Nos.1, 6 and 13.

Trailing the leaders by a slim margin of one-stroke, with a share of third place, Caedmon Albertyn of Matthews and Luke Tisdale of Winston - Salem.

Behind the duo tied for third is a pack of three players sitting at 1-over-par, 71; Davis Wotnosky of Wake Forest, Preston Hage of Raleigh and Michael Snyder of Lillington.

The final round will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the last tee time for the Championship will be at 10:10 a.m. The trophy and award reception will take place immediately after the final group has finished on Wednesday.
