Brogden Leads the N.C. Senior Women's Amateur

 

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (May 17, 2021) -- First round results of the 17th North Carolina Senior Women’s Amateur Championship at Highland Country Club in Fayetteville, N.C. on May 17, 2021. The championship division is competing at 5,350 yards and the Carolinas division is competing at 5,035 yards (par 36-36--72).

Pat Brogden of Garner, N.C., the six-time champion of the North Carolina Senior Women’s Amateur, took an early lead at 1-over-par, 73 after the first round at the Highland Country Club. Brogden is trying to defend her title against a stacked field this week. Brogden leads the field by three strokes after carding three birdies in her opening round.


Brenda Kuehn of Asheville, N.C. is in a close second place, just three strokes behind Brogden at 4-over-par, 76. Kuehn found some magic on the sixth hole when she stuck her approach shot to about 8 feet from 150 yards out, leading to her second birdie on the outward nine.



June Wang of Huntersville N.C. is in third place at 6-over-par, 78. Sarah Phillips-Durst of Pinehurst, N.C. holds fourth position at 7-over-par, 79. There is a tie for fifth with Kim Briele of  New Bern, N.C. and Sook Hee Yang of Jamestown, N.C. with each carding 8-over-par, 80.


Tammy Johnson of Taylorsville, N.C. and Libby Lewallen of Pinehurst, N.C. are in a two-way tie for the top spot of the Carolinas division at 10-over-par, 82. Just one stroke behind the leaders, Julie Shore of Raleigh, N.C. is in a good position at 11-over-par, 83 entering the final round on Tuesday. Clara Brown of Fayetteville, N.C. holds fourth position with a score of 12-over-par, 84. Barbara Munnett of Winston-Salem N.C. is in fifth at 13-over-par, 85.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
