Walter and WALT Todd Break Through FOR FIRST Carolinas Father-Son TITLE
ABERDEEN, NC – Final results of the 46th Carolinas Father-Son Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Legacy Golf Links in Aberdeen, NC on Friday, July 27, 2012 (Par 36-36—72, 6528 yards).
Walter and Walt Todd of Laurens, SC carded a six-under 66 to finally break through and win their first Carolinas Father-Son Championship title. Walter Todd has been on the short end of two playoffs in this event once each with his two sons (Walt and Neal). Walter played this year with 21-year-old Walt who is a redshirt junior at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC. Walter Todd lost in a playoff with son Neal at last year's championship.
“I am the happiest guy in the world”, stated Walter Todd. “These events are tough to win because there are so many great players in the Carolinas. We played very well today despite a couple of hiccups. We just feel fortunate to finally win one”.
The Todd’s partnered for seven birdies and one bogey in their round.
The win marks the third CGA championship title for the 51-year-old Walter Todd (2007 Carolinas Mid-Amateur, 2009 Carolinas Four-Ball). Walter Todd is also the immediate past president of the Carolinas Golf Association.
Preston and Zachary Edmondson along with 2009 champion Jim and Brent Pridgen finished in a tie for 2nd place at five-under 67.
Defending champions Walker and Jackson Taylor of Wilmington, NC posted a four-under 68 to finish in a tie for 4th place.

The Carolinas Father-Son Championship attracted 252 teams this year that played a modified alternate shot format at five Pinehurst, NC area courses (Legacy Golf Links, Pinewild Country Club, Longleaf Golf & Country Club, Seven Lakes Country Club and Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club). Teams are placed into divisions by adding 2/3 of the low handicap plus 1/3 of the high handicap.
