Two-time defending champion Rick Cloninger, 57, of Fort Mill, SC will be looking to join seven-time Carolinas Senior Amateur champion Dale Morey of High Point, NC as the only golfers to win this event three consecutive years (Morey won four successive titles between ‘69 and ’72). Cloninger is in the midst of a tournament-packed golf schedule. Last week, he advanced to the semifinals of the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship before losing to the eventual winner and next week he will travel to French Lick, Indiana to represent South Carolina in the USGA Men’s State Team Championship.

Other past champions competing this year are:

Russ Perry, 63, of Winston-Salem, N.C. (2010)
John Walters, 67, of Charlotte, N.C. (2009)

The starting field includes 117 players. First and second round starting times can be found at: https://www.ghintpp.com/carolinasgolf/TPPOnlineScoring/Pairings.aspx?id=549

The Dye course at Sedgefield CC is a 1991 Pete Dye design that will play at 6,400 yards with a par of 71. Last year, Sedgefield CC was the site of the Carolinas Interclub Finals and has twice hosted the North Carolina Amateur Championship.

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by September 24, is a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association and has an active USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club that does not exceed 10.4.

The Carolinas Senior Amateur is one of 40 championships conducted annually by the Carolinas Golf Association, which is in its 105th year of serving amateur golf in the Carolinas.
