58th CAROLINAS-VIRGINIAS WOMEN'S TEAM MATCHESAT PORTERS NECK COUNTRY CLUB IN WILMINGTON, NC - JULY 14-16, 2014

WEST END, NC (7/12/14) -- The 58th Carolinas-Virginias Women's Team Matches will be held at Porters Neck Country Club in Wilmington, NC on July 14-16, 2014.

This annual team match competition is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association in conjunction with the Virginia and West Virginia State Golf Association. First started in 1957, the goal is to provide golfers who have excelled in state and local competitions the opportunity to represent their home state in an interstate
match. The traditions of good competition, respectful sportsmanship, and great friendships are reflected in these matches. Just to be asked if you are available to play is a source of pride to women golfers throughout the Carolinas.

The championship is conducted over three rounds. The first and third round matches are consist of Four-Ball match play while second round is conducted in the Pinehurst Foursome format. Each team is comprised of 24 players. The Carolinas team is made up of players from North and South Carolina. The Virginias team comprises players from both Virginia and West Virginia. Each match is worth three points in a nassau style format. A total of 36 points are available each day.

The Carolinas Team are the defending champions having prevailed in last year's competition by a score of 56-52. Carolinas have won the Team Matches for the last four years. The Carolinas team leads the all time series over their Viringias counterparts.

Designed by world-renowned golf architect Tom Fazio, Porters Neck Country Club's 18 hole golf course opened in 1991. In 2005-2006, the Fazio Group oversaw a major renovation of the course, including new greens and bunkers. The beautiful 18-hole Coastal Carolina golf course is consistently maintained to the high standards set by the Fazio organization’s design team. Designed to accommodate the casual golfer and to challenge the seasoned professional, the golf course does not disappoint. The fairways are generous in width but with strategically placed fairway bunkers that will catch a wayward tee shot. The true test of Porters Neck CC is in the approach shots to the green. The course has played host to four golf championships sponsored by the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) - 1998 North Carolina Amateur; 2010 Carolinas Senior Four-Ball; 2011 Carolinas Women's Four-Ball; and 2013 North Carolina Mid-Amateur championships.
