WEST END, NC (5/14/14) -- The 88th Carolinas Women's Amateur Championship will be held at the Wachesaw Plantation Club in Murrells Inlet, SC on May 20-22, 2014.

A tie for Overall Champion, Senior Champion and Super Senior Champion is determined by an on-course playoff.

Prizes and merchandise are awarded to the Overall Champion, Senior Champion and Super Senior Champion. Merchandise is awarded to winners in each flight. A medalist award is given to the low scorer in each division after 36 holes of play.

Entry is open to any female amateur golfer who has reached her 13th birthday by May 20, 2014, is a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active GHIN USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club.

Wachesaw Plantation Club is one of Tom Fazio's finest designs. It is consistently recognized as one of the finest in South Carolina because of its condition, the natural beauty of its surroundings and the quality of the shot values built into the design. Key features of the course include undulating bent grass greens, challenging approach shots into every green, excellent turf conditions and well defined tree-lined fairways. The eighteenth hole - high atop a bluff overlooking the slow-moving waters of the Waccamaw - is frequently recognized as one of the most dramatic holes on the entire East Coast.

Wachesaw Plantation Club provides an excellent venue for championship play and has hosted numerous CGA Championships in prior years including the South Carolina Amateur Match Play (1990); the Carolinas Pro-Amateur (1992); the Carolinas Senior Four-Ball (1987, 2003); the Carolinas Mid-Amateur (1988); the South Carolina Junior Match Play (1993); the Carolinas Amateur (2000); and the Carolinas Women's Four-Ball (2005).

In the 2013 Women's Amateur Championship, Katie Rose Higgins of Winston-Salem, NC shot a third round 3-under par 69 to win the championship by 3 strokes over Kathryn Miranda of Lexington, SC. Higgins has been crowned Carolinas Women's Amateur champion two years in a row (2012-13) and will try for a three-peat this year at the Wachesaw Plantation Club. 2013 runner-up Miranda will also compete in this year's championship.

Other notables in the field include nine-time Women's Senior Champion Patty Moore (16-time CGA Champion) of Charlotte, NC; 2011 Women's Champion Angela Stewart, Greenville, NC; defending 2013 Women's Senior Champion Ashley Rose, North Augusta, SC; eight-time CGA Champion Pat Brogden of Garner, NC; 2012 and 2013 CGA Women's Player of the Year Dawn Woodard of Greer, SC; 1998 and 2001 Women's Amateur Champion Brenda Kuehn of Asheville, NC; and 2010 Women's Senior Champion Dianne Yelovich of Pinehurst, NC.
