West End, N.C. - The Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) is pleased to announce the commencement of construction for its new headquarters and museum to be named Carolinas Golf House (CGH). CGH will be located on the Pine Needles Resort property in Southern Pines, N.C. The idea for the project dates as far back as the fall of 2000 in a CGA Executive Committee long-range planning discussion. The Executive Committee approved the Pine Needles proposal in the winter of 2010. CGH will become the headquarters for the CGA in providing services and education for its 700 golf clubs and its 150,000 golf members. It will also house the 35-year-old Carolinas Golf Foundation, which has provided grants and funding in excess of $1,500,000 to Carolinas-based golf initiatives and grow-the-game programs. Golf House will be a two level 13,000 square-foot building located adjacent to the Pine Needles conference center. The expected completion date is fall of 2014. “This is the first building that the CGA has ever built," said CGA President Dick Dosek of Clemmons, NC. "Carolinas Golf House will enhance our ability to promote golf to all Carolinas golfers.” The Carolinas Golf Association originated in October of 1909 at the Country Club of Charleston in South Carolina. Its former headquarter sites have included Pinehurst Resort (Pinehurst, NC), Tanglewood Golf Course (Clemmons, NC), and presently West End (Seven Lakes) N.C. Since the late 1930s, the CGA staff has grown from one to 15. The association also employs and trains as many as four interns each summer. The CGA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which provides services to public and private golf clubs and its members throughout North and South Carolina. CGA programs include: a 230+ golf tournament schedule, junior golf initiatives, handicapping services to 150,000 golfers, course rating, turfgrass management and assistance, and education on the rules of golf and handicapping. "This is been a long time coming,” said CGA president Dick Dosek. "The Executive Committee, after extensive discussions and comprehensive planning on this project, is excited to be able to make this announcement." Carolinas Golf House will also create a Carolinas golf museum in Phase II of the project. Fundraising efforts have been in place and will continue.
