Day One Results
Asheboro, NC—Grant Smith of Charlotte, NC took the medalist award in the stroke play qualifying at the 17th NC Junior Boy’s 13 and Under Championship with a round of even par 70. Smith, a rising eight grader, had three birdies, two bogeys and 13 pars on the Donald Ross designed Asheboro Municipal GC in Asheboro, NC. Akshay Bhatia of Wake Forest, NC was second place with a 73. Defending champion Chris Kim of Cary, NC will be seeded number one for match play and medalist Smith will be the number two seed. The top 16 players advance to the championship flight. The remaining juniors are divided into two flights of eight players each for match play. All matches are nine holes matches with the exception of the championship match which is an 18 hole match scheduled to start around 12:30 on Tuesday afternoon.
In the afternoon match play, both top seeded Kim and medalist Smith advance to the quarterfinals. Kim defeated Connor Moore of Durham, NC 4 & 3 while Smith beat Will Sleeper of Charlotte, NC 4 & 2. Also advancing to the quarterfinals are Michael Sanders of Davidson, NC, Chase Tickle of Raleigh, NC, William Poole, II of Raleigh, NC, Akshay Bhatia of Wake Forest, NC and Patrick Carlin of Raleigh, NC.
