16 boys and 8 girls advance to Third day of SC Junior Match Play

Both the boys’ and girls’ number one seeds were defeated in the first round of the 36^th SC Junior Match Play Championship at Lancaster GC in Lancaster, SC.  Ashely Czarnecki of Greenville, SC surprised the qualifying medalist Carly Burkhardt of Greenville, SC winning their match 1 up.  But the biggest surprise of the day was Jack Parrott of Columbia, SC defeating boys’ medalist Hunter Nichols of Clinton, SC 6&5.  Parrott, a rising high school freshman, advanced to match play earlier in the morning in an eight person playoff for the last spot in the 64 player match play field.  Josh Fickes of Beaufort, SC, the 2013 SC Junior Champion, also had a tough first match but advanced defeating Weston Sanders of Greenwood, S.C. on the 20^th hole.  But as the upsets continued, Fickes lost his second round match to Alex Handy of Aiken, SC 1 down.

 

The matches continue Thursday morning at 8 am off the first tee,

 

This annual junior championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
