Paul Tucker and Brent Roof Prevail at Carolinas Four-Ball

CAMDEN, SC – Final match play results of the 62^nd Four-Ball Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Camden Country Club in Camden, SC on Sunday, May 5, 2013 (6421 yards, par 35-35—70, 71.6/128).

Paul Tucker of Waxhaw, NC rolled in an 18-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to win the 62^nd Carolinas Four-Ball Championship over Brian Westveer of Charlotte, NC and Scott Harvey of Greensboro, NC. The win for Tucker, a former Duke team member, and Brent Roof of Columbia, SC, a former USC standout, avenged last year’s loss in the championship match.

Tucker and Roof, childhood friends since the age of 10 via junior golf, fought many different opponents in the today’s championship match. Not only did they have to face two great players in Westveer and Harvey, they had to fight tough rainy, windy and unseasonable cold temperatures at Camden Country Club. Also Tucker-Roof never led the match and Westveer-Harvey could only gain a 1 up advantage twice in the match.

“We learned a lot from last year’s tournament and basically it stinks to lose”, Tucker said. “You have to stay patient at Camden Country Club. You just cannot force birdies around here. We got a little better each round after posting a 38 on our opening nine holes in qualifying on Wednesday”.

The victory is the third CGA title for Tucker (2009 NC Mid-Amateur, 2011 Carolinas Mid-Amateur) and the first for Roof.

Roof noted that, “The golf course is fantastic after the recent renovations. The membership at Camden Country Club should be proud of what they have done to the course”.

This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association which is its 104^th year of serving amateur golf in the Carolinas.
