Congratulations to Macon Moye of Southern Pines, N.C. on taking home the 16th North Carolina Super Senior Championship at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. Moye recorded a 73 in Round 1 and an impressive 65 in the Final Round to secure the title by two strokes at 6-under.

In Round 1, Moye had two birdies on his scorecard for the round and ultimately finished with a 73, 1-over for the day. Paul Simson of Raleigh, N.C. had the lead after Round 1 with a 70, 2-under. Right behind him tied at 1-under was Defending Champion Todd Hendley of Columbus, N.C. and Mike Osborne of Greensboro, N.C. Heading into the Final Round, Moye was three strokes back from the lead.

In the Final Round on Thursday, the leaderboard was exciting to watch throughout the day. Moye played an incredible round with eight birdies on his card. He birdied his third hole, and then went on to birdie holes 6, 7, 8, and 9 in a row. The birdies didn’t end there — he then birdied holes 10 and 11, and as the field was through 10 holes, Moye had the lead by three strokes at 6-under. Simson was in second place at 3-under.

With a couple more birdies from Simson, Moye and Simson were all tied up at 5-under through 16 holes. Both with pars on their 17th hole, they remained tied with just one hole to play. Moye birdied his final hole, par-4 number 1, to seal the win at a two-day total of 138, 6-under.

Simson finished in second place at 4-under for the tournament.

Don Slater of Durham, N.C. claimed the 70+ Division on Thursday with rounds of 69-74 for a two-day total of 143, 1-under.

In Round 1, Slater carded an impressive five birdies in his round and finished with a sub-70 round at 69, 3-under. This put him at the top of the leaderboard along with Defending Champion Dee Blankenhorn of Raleigh, N.C. and Doug Owens of Albemarle, N.C. Kim Mansfield of Jackson Springs, N.C. was behind them at 2-under, and multiple players sat tied at 1-under.

The leaderboard on Thursday was also ever-changing for the 70+ Division throughout the round. As the field made the turn to their second nine, Slater kept the lead by himself at 1-under with Owens one stroke behind at even-par, and four more players were another stroke back at 1-over.

Through 15 holes, Owens took the lead by two strokes at 2-under, and Slater sat at even-par with just a few holes left to play. However, heading into the final two holes, Slater and Owens were all tied up at even-par. With a birdie on his 17th hole, Slater separated himself and took the lead by one with one hole remaining, and with a par on his final hole, he secured the win.

Owens finished in second place at even-par for the tournament.
