Congratulations to Hallie Wilson of Lewisville, N.C. on defending the title at the 15th Jimmy Anderson Girls’ Invitational at Taberna Country Club in New Bern, N.C. Wilson shot a 71-71 for a two-day total of 142, 2-under, and won on the first playoff hole to secure the win for this event for the second year in a row.

In Round 1 on Saturday, Wilson carded four birdies to come in with a red score of 71, 1-under. Elizabeth Guthrie of Charlotte, N.C.. and Victoria Davis of Cary, N.C. sat tied for first at 2-under after Round 1, putting Wilson just one stroke back of the lead with 18 holes to play on Sunday.

In the Final Round on Sunday, Wilson started strong with a string of five pars, followed by a birdie on the 6th hole. As the final groups made the turn, Wilson had the lead by three strokes at 3-under. Behind her at even-par was Davis, Ella June Hannant of Pikeville, N.C., and Mallory Pitts of Greensboro, N.C.

Through 15 holes, Davis took the lead at 2-under with Wilson right behind at 1-under. Wilson made a great birdie on the par-5 16th hole, putting her back at the top of the leaderboard with Davis at 2-under. Heading into the 18th hole, Wilson and Davis remained tied at 2-under. Both making pars on the final hole, Wilson and Davis headed to a playoff starting on hole 9.

“Number nine is a really attackable hole, just getting it in wedge distance makes it easier to attack,” Wilson explained. Wilson birdied number 9 in both Round 1 and the Final Round, and she secured the title on the first playoff hole.

“I just stayed steady and capitalized on all of the par fives. Really on those wedge holes, I was just making sure I was birding those and keeping my mistakes as low as I could,” Wilson shared.

“My mental game has improved a lot, just taking the pressure off of myself and just learning that golf is a grind every single day. You have it some days, and some days you don’t, so taking that pressure off of myself and really working hard on my game.”

When asked how it feels to defend her title, Wilson shared, “It means so much. I love the course and have loved playing this event here the last two years. Getting to come back and defend the title is awesome.”

After Davis in second place, Kelsey Sciacca of Charlotte, N.C. finished in third place at 1-under.

The Carolinas Golf Association would like to thank Alex McCraight, Wade Faircloth, and the rest of the staff at Taberna Country Club for a great event.
