Announcing 2023 CGAcers Hole-in-One Club Contest Winners
SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (January 17, 2024) -- One hundred and fifty-two (152) applications were submitted to the CGAcers Club for holes-in-one in 2023. The average distance of those reported was 137 yards.
The longest ace recorded was 253 yards by Mark Nieters from Winston Salem, N.C. Nieters made this incredible shot on the 15th hole of the Championship Course at Tanglewood Park Golf Club in Clemmons, N.C. on September 5, 2023. The shortest ace (55 yards) was made by Donna Moetsch, from Calabash, N.C., on August 11, 2023, on the 5th hole on the Jones Course at the Sea Trail Golf Club in Sunset Beach, NC.
Robin Slate made her Ace on October 29 (No. 17 – 125 yards – 4 Hybrid) at her member club, The Golf Club at Eagle Creek. This accomplishment came just a short seven months after her heart transplant! The CGA continues to wish her the best of health and many “aces” in her future!
Players reporting the accomplishment of two holes-in-one in 2023 are:
- Easton Rains – May 26 (No. 11 - 183 yards – 8 Iron) at the Siler City Country Club and June 4 (No. 4 – 186 yards – 8 Iron) at the Wildwood Green Golf Club.
- Andy Reina – June 25 (No. 13, 107 yards – Pitching Wedge) and December 26 (No. 13 – 166 yards – 6 Iron). Both were at his member club, Shadowmoss Golf & Country Club.
2023 was a lucky year for the Hills! Vickie Hill made her hole-in-one on September 20 (No. 11 – 115 yards – 7 Wood) at her member club, Monroe Country Club, and Dave Hill made his on November 19 (No. 6 – 130 yards – 8 Iron) at Deer Brook Country Club.

Wildwood Green Golf Club in Raleigh, N.C., reported the most holes-in-one with fifteen (15). Of these, five (5) were made on Hole 4, four (4) on Hole 6, and three (3) on Holes 12 and 17, respectively.
Ocean Ridge Plantation in Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., came in second and reported fourteen (14) for 2023. Of those, six (6) were made on Panther’s Run (3 on hole No. 2, 2 on hole No. 11 and 1 on hole No. 6), four (4) on Tiger’s Eye (3 on hole No. 6 and 1 on hole No. 2), three (3) on Leopard’s Chase (1 each on holes No. 4, No. 13 and No.16) and one (1) on Hole No. 6 on Lion’s Paw.
Shadowmoss Golf & Country Club and The Clubs at St. James tied for third, each reporting eleven (11) for 2023.
The Carolinas Golf Association is pleased to announce the 2023 CGAcer Hole-in-One Club Contest winners. CGA members who submitted a hole-in-one application in 2023 and carry a USGA/CGA handicap were eligible. This year’s prizes for the annual drawing for hole-in-one winners include:
- 1st Place – “Golf in the Carolinas” book, CGA mug, sun hat, golf hat, knit hat, valuables pouch, towel, belt, portable phone charger, and tote bag.
- 2nd Place – “Golf in the Carolinas” book, CGA mug, golf hat, knit hat, club head cover, towel, valuables bag, portable phone charge and tote bag.
- 3rd Place – “Golf in the Carolinas” book, CGA water bottle, golf hat, knit hat, club head cover, valuables bag, portable phone charger and tote bag.
The 2023 CGAcer winners are:
- 1st – John Garrett of Anderson, S.C. (Member of The Walker Course at Clemson University)
- 2nd – Gary Brown of Calabash, NC. (Member of Brunswick Golf Club)
- 3rd – Carol Peters of Southern Pines, N.C. (Member of Longleaf Golf & Family Club)

Join the fun! Let us know if you are a CGA member who makes a hole-in-one in 2024.
The CGA will be awarding prizes again for 2024. The random drawing will take place on or before January 30, 2025. All hole-in-one forms must be received at the CGA office no later than January 15, 2025. The CGAcer hole-in-one form is available on our website at carolinasgolf.org/cgacers and must be completed and submitted for eligibility. The hole-in-one must be scored from January 1 through December 31, 2024. Your name will be entered for EACH hole-in-one made in 2023. You must be a current CGA member and carry a USGA/CGA handicap to be eligible. CGA Staff, Executive Committee members, and their families are ineligible. Prizes will change annually.
The CGAcers Hole-in-One program is one of many services the Carolinas Golf Association offers.
