Harvey And Haarlow Claim Pro-Junior Title

 

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. (July 25, 2022) -- Results of the 16th Carolinas Pro-Junior Championship at Club at 12 Oaks at Holly Springs, N.C. on July 25, 2022.

After one round of stroke play, Cameron Harvey of Kernersville, N.C. and Chris Haarlow of Greensboro, N.C. have claimed victory at the 16th Carolinas Pro-Junior Championship. They ended with an overall score of 8-under-par, 64, putting up a clean scorecard. Additionally, they had eight birdies total on the day.

The pro and junior duo held the lead the entire day, always staying a few strokes ahead of the second position. Harvey and Haarlow dominated 12 Oaks with no side ever touching their lead. Their consistent and error-free play throughout the day permanently sealed their place at the top of the leaderboard. 

This consistency throughout the day was all due to the duo’s impressive teamwork each taking credit at a different aspect of the game. Harvey’s drives set up the two well for approach shots that Haarlow took advantage of to set up good putting opportunities for the team. Harvey also said the green reading between the two also helped secure their victory.

In addition to the golf skills showcased by the two, the course conditions also played a factor in their win. Harvey claimed that the greens at 12 Oaks were very fast, similar to his hometown course that he is used to playing. This made it easier for him to adjust to the course and putt well.

Haarlow is also close with former CGA champion Scott Harvey, the father of Cameron. Haarlow thinks his close playing relationship with Cameron’s father allowed the two to excel on the course.

“I’ve been fortunate to hang around Scott a good bit,” Haarlow said. “I think we’re on the same page with a lot of things we say, so I think that kind of, you know, made Cameron kind of just relaxed and at ease.” 

Harvey and Haarlow said they had been working together recently as student and teacher, having a set goal of showcasing their skills and enjoying a round of golf together. The two claimed they weren’t even watching the scoreboard during the round.

“The game plan was to have fun and see if we got on a roll and we did early in the day,” Haarlow said.

The two said they felt great about their win and appreciated the Carolinas golf community of both juniors and pros coming out to have a good time playing the game of golf.

“It was really fun,” Haarlow said. “It’s great to see a bunch of, you know, my fellow PGA pros out here supporting the game and supporting the juniors.”

Taft Courie of Fayetteville, N.C. and Gus Ulrich of Carthage, N.C. earned runners-up with a score of 5-under-par, 67. Tied for third, both sides with a score of 4-under-par, 68, were David Sanchez of Charlotte, N.C. and Atley Gabriel of Claremont, N.C. along with Brad Luebchow and Morgan Ketchum of Winston-Salem, N.C.

About the Carolinas Golf Association

The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers.
