Preview: 12th Carolinas Super Senior Championship

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (August 31, 2020) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 12th Carolinas Super Senior Championship at Kinston Country Club in Kinston, N.C. from September 1 - 2, 2020. The 65+ Division will compete at approximately 6,100 yards. The 70+ Division will compete at approximately 5,550 yards. (36-35--71)

Players to Watch:

 

• Paul Simson of Raleigh, N.C. is a 38-time CGA Champion including two Carolinas Super Senior titles in 2017 and 2018. Last year Simson tied for runner-up in this event. This year Simson tied for 13th at the North Carolina Amateur and tied for seventh at the Carolinas Senior Four-Ball with long-time playing partner Donald Detweiler of Raleigh, N.C. who is also in the field this week.
   

• Arlis Pike of Kernersville, N.C. is a three-time Carolinas Super Senior Champion capturing three wins in a row in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Pike was the runner-up in the 70+ division last year and looks to win back the title again this year.
   

• Evan Long of Charlotte, N.C. is the reigning North Carolina Super Senior Champion and ranked second in the Carolinas Super Senior Men’s Rankings. 

 

• John Fritz of Mint Hill, N.C. also tied for runner-up in this event last year along with Simson and looks to win his first CGA Championship this week. Fritz is the No. 6 ranked golfer in the Carolinas Super Senior Men’s Rankings.

 

Kinston Country Club is a par 71, Ellis Maples design with beautiful Bermuda fairways and challenging Champion Bermuda grass greens. Kinston Country Club has hosted the 2000 and 2003 North Carolina Junior, the 2014 North Carolina Senior, the 2016 North Carolina Super Senior, and now the 2020 Carolinas Super Senior.

The championship is contested at 36 holes of individual stroke play. Gross scores only. A tie for the 65+ Division or 70+ Division is decided by an on-course playoff. 

 

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 65th birthday by June 8, 2020, and maintains a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active USGA Handicap Index® that does not exceed 15.4 at a CGA member club.
