Preview: 16th Dogwood State Junior Boys' Championship

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (July 19, 2020) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 16th Dogwood State Junior Boys’ Championship at the River Landing Course in Wallace, N.C. from July 20- 22, 2020. (7,149 yards, par 36-36--72)

Players to Watch:

• Tyler DeChellis of Clayton, N.C. is ranked No. 2 in the N.C. Junior Boys’ Rankings. DeChellis recently placed third in the TYGA Coastal Plains Junior and tied for 17th at both the N.C. Junior Boys’ Championship and the Jimmy Anderson Boys’ Junior Invitational. Dechellis, a member of the class of 2021, is committed to play college golf at East Carolina University.

• Clayson Good of Durham, N.C. is currently ranked No. 4 in the N.C. Junior Boys’ Rankings. Good won the N.C. Junior Boys Championship in June, and placed second in the Junior North & South Championship two weeks ago. Also in early June, Good placed fourth in the Jimmy Anderson Boys’ Junior Invitational. 

• Garret Risner of Holly Springs, N.C. is the No. 8 ranked player in the N.C. Junior Boys’ Rankings. He recently tied for 17th in the NC Junior Boys’ and tied for seventh in the Bojangles Junior Open. He will continue his golf career at Elon University beginning this fall.

• Jackson Bode of Pinehurst, N.C. is currently ranked No. 25 in the N.C. Junior Boys’ Rankings. He recently tied for 14th place in the Pinehurst North & South Junior, and tied for ninth place at the Jimmy Anderson Boys' Junior Invitational. 

• Jake Herring of Wilson, N.C. is currently tied for No. 27 in rankings according to N.C. Junior Boys’ rankings. Herring recently tied for fifth in the NC Junior Boys’. The rising senior is committed to play college golf at NC State.

• Michael La Sasso of Raleigh, N.C. is a rising junior and tied for 27th in the N.C. Junior Boys’ Rankings. La Sasso placed second in the Tarheel Golf Foundation’s 6th Annual Players Championship at Bryan Park, and tied for ninth place at the NC Junior Boys in June. He placed second in the Bojangles Junior Open, and also tied for 24th in the Jimmy Anderson Boys’ Junior Invitational.

• Matias La Grutta of Cary N.C. is the number 57th ranked player in the nation in the class of 2020 by the AJGA. La Grutta signed to play golf at Clemson University in November. He is the first native of Argentina to sign with the Clemson program.

 

The Dogwood Junior Boys' Championship is the stroke play junior boys' championship for the state of North Carolina. The championship format is stroke play, contested over 54 holes with a cut to the low 60 and ties after 36 holes. Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has not reached their 19th birthday as of July 23, who has not started college, is a legal resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association and has a current USGA Handicap Index® that does not exceed 18.4.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
