Gray Wins Carolinas Girls' 15 and Under

WHISPERING PINES, N.C. (July 10, 2018) -- Final round results of the 12th Carolinas Girls' 15 and Under Championship at the Country Club of Whispering Pines in Whispering Pines, N.C. on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 (5,701 yards, Par 36-36--72, Course Rating 73.3/129).

Mia Gray of Conway, S.C. took home her first CGA title at the 12th Carolinas Girls' 15 and Under Championship at Country Club of Whispering Pines. The thirteen-year-old carded a six-over-par 78 on the final day of competition to secure the trophy.
In the first round of competition, Gray had a stellar performance and carded a three-under-par 69 with six birdies. She entered the second round with an eight stroke lead over the rest of the field. Gray called her round "very exciting" and said she felt "really good" about how she was playing headed into the final round.
After making birdie on her first hole in the second round, Gray said she felt nerves and stumbled a bit on the front nine. However, she was able to record two birdies on the back nine and kept her lead over the rest of the field.
"I'm very excited to win this trophy," Gray said. "I've been trying to win a tournament all summer, so this is my very first one."
Molly Hardwick of Lexington, S.C. finished two strokes back from Gray after she carded an even-par 72 in the second round. Her round was a five shot improvement from the previous day, and she earned three birdies. Macie Burcham of Greensboro, N.C. finished the tournament at eight-over-par after shooting a two-over-par 74 in the second round.
In the Junior division, Ellen Yu of High Point, N.C. took home the trophy after finishing the tournament with a twenty-over-par 164. Yu shot the low score in her division in the final round with an eight-over-par 80. In the Sub-Junior division, Mackenzie Crossman of Pittsboro, N.C. took home the trophy after carding a 46 in the final round.
In each division, a "most improved" prize was given for the player who improves her first round score from the previous year to the current year. The most improved player in the Sub-Junior division was Mackenzie Crossman of Pittsboro, N.C., and she carded a 52 in the first round. Kaitlyn Rand of Raleigh, N.C. earned most improved honors in the Junior division after improving her score by nine strokes. Zoe Carles of Clinton, S.C. was most improved in the Championship division after carding an 81 on the first day of play.
The Championship and Junior divisions are conducted at 36 holes of stroke play. The Sub-Junior division is conducted at 18 holes of stroke play (9 holes each day).
Entry is open to any female golfer who has not reached her 16th birthday by July 10, 2018, who has not started college, and maintains a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina.
