First round leaders won their first CGA championships at Mimosa Hills Golf & Country Club on Friday. The cousin duo of Mike Gravley of Greer, SC and Stan Sill of Spartanburg, SC came from one behind to win the 50th Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Championship by three shots over the team of Pat Thompson of Asheville, NC and Keith Waters of Raleigh, NC and the team of Jim Johnson of Newton, NC and Brian Reep of Morganton, NC.
"It’s really special to win here (at Mimosa Hills), with the history of this place," said Gravley. The team made three birdies on each nine and took the lead for good on after birdies on #13 and #14. "Mike really played great today." Still said. Gravley carded five birdies on his own, and on the final hole after he hit is approach shot on the roof of the clubhouse, Sill finished the victory off in style with a birdie of his own. “I knew Stan had 9-iron in his hand so I could do what I did on 18,” Gravley joked.
Gravley & Sill have earned spots on the Carolinas Captain’s Putter roster by virtue of their Carolinas Senior Four-Ball victory.
