Grant Sellers of McBee, S.C. walked away victorious at the 5th Creed Junior Boys' Championship, posting 2-under par 138 for the championship. "I think I did really well today, especially in the wind," said Sellers. "This was a really big win for me, so I'm happy."
Sellers finished the day with a near clean scorecard, but bogeys on No. 15 and No. 17 gave other players the opportunity to close the gap he had built. However, Sellers felt he had enough cushion to still remain ahead. "I had a feeling I was winning at that time, but I still kept my composure. I've been hitting the ball really well, everything was going good."
Sellers recently earned state medalist honors and led McBee High School to the 1-A state golf championship, but claimed his first Carolinas Golf championship with the win. "I'm speechless right now. This is a big win, my first win this summer. There were a lot of great players here." He was the only player to break par.
Brady Hinkle of Lancaster, S.C. and Tyler Gray of Lugoff, S.C. finished tied second overall. Hinkle posted five-under for the day, the lowest round of the invitational.
Spencer Oxendine won the boys' 15-16 championship, finishing four-over, 141 overall Nicholas Mayfield finished second at five-over 145 overall. Caleb Henson placed third at eight-over 148 overall.
Nathan Franks captured the boys' 13-14 championship at eight-over 148. He claimed the win by making par on the par-3 16th in a playoff against eventually runner-up Ryan Macri of Wake Forest, N.C. Ike Joy of Denve, N.C. finished third at 14-over 154 overall.
In all, 82 players competed in the Creed Junior Boys' Invitational.
The CGA would like to thank the members and staff of the Camden Country Club for hosting the Creed Junior Boys' Invitational . Special gratitude is extended to general manager Eric Wilson, head golf professional Matt McCarley, and course superintendent Danny Allen.
