Wallace Wows Field to Take Medalist Honors
Stanley, N.C. – Stroke play qualifying results from the 18^th Carolinas Women’s Match Play Championship hosted by Cowans Ford Golf Club on July 7-9, 2015. (Yardage 5975, Par 72, Course Rating 75.0/132).

Meagan Wallace of Charlotte, N.C. fires an impressive round of 2-under par, 70 to capture medalist honors and take the number two seed heading into the match play portion of the championship.  Wallace, a recent graduate of Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. carded two birdies and sixteen pars.  “My Dad says I play boring golf,” laughed Wallace.  Boring or not Wallace will be a strong contender in the field. 

A few past champions also made the championship flight cut and look to put their name on the trophy once again.  Dawn Woodard  of Greer, S.C. shot even par 72 while Pat Brogden of Garner, N.C. shot a one-over 73.  This is Brogden’s first competitive event this year after a wrist injury had her on the sidelines for most of the spring season.  “I’m not 100% yet, but it’s getting better every day,” Brogden said.  

This was the first time in championship history that the playoff for the championship flight was at 74.  Five players had to go into a sudden death playoff for two spots.  Juliana Sebastian of Columbia, S.C. and local member Peg Brady of Stanley, N.C. both birdied the first hole to earn their chance to compete for the overall championship.

The rest of the field will be broken out into flights of eight and will compete at match play for the duration of the championship.

In the tournament division, Karen Sennett of Stanley, N.C. took medalist honors by two shots over Sandy Ray also of Stanley, N.C.  This division plays a shorter course and will also compete at match play for the duration of the championship.
