Cox Notches Vicki DiSantis Girls' Win

Playing in her first Vicki DiSantis Girls' Championship, high school sophomore Emily Cox of Lancaster, S.C. made a 15-foot par putt on the final hole to capture the title by one stroke. "The last putt almost got me," Cox reflected. "But in the back of my mind, I knew I was going to make it." Starting the day one back of the leader, Cox mixed two late birdies with four bogeys for a final round two-over-par 74. Her two-day total of two-over-par 146 proved to be just enough to edge the rest of the field. Video Interview
Five players had a good chance to claim the victory, but faltered at the uphill 391 yard par-4 18th hole. It played the second toughest in the final round with a 4.932 stroke average. Runners-up Samantha Vodry of Mooresville, N.C. and Anna Redding of Concord, N.C. both made bogey on that hole to miss forcing a playoff.
Also finishing tied for second with Vodry and Redding at three-over-par 147 was two-time defending Jimmy Anderson Girls' champion Jennifer Chang of Cary, N.C. Two late birdies on holes 14 and 15 were not enough to overcome her two-over-par start on the front nine. A final bogey on the par-3 17th knocked her out of contention.
With a birdie on hole 14, Emilia Migliaccio of Cary, N.C. was leading the tournament at one-over-par until she ended her round bogey, double bogey. She finished tied for fifth with first round leader Gracyn Burgess of Lexington, S.C. at four-over-par 148. Burgess, a high school freshman started the day with a one-shot lead but struggled on the back nine. She recorded three bogeys and one double bogey toward a final round five-over-par 77.
2014 champion Kelli Murphy of Elgin, S.C. is a freshman on the golf team at Auburn University and not eligible for the event.
The 10th Vicki DiSantis Girls' Championship is 36 holes of stroke play. Entry is open to any female amateur golfer ages 12 to 18 as of May 3, 2015, who has not started college, is a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a Handicap Index that does not exceed 18.3.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers. The CGA is the second largest golf association in the country with over 700 member clubs represented by nearly 150,000 individuals.
