Checking In On The Race to Cas Cup
The Race is on in the Ladies' Race to the Carolinas Cup
SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (August 17, 2016) -- The race is on in the Carolinas Golf Association's Ladies' Race to the Carolinas Cup. Two women have competed in all six ladies' four-ball play days and they stand at the top of the leaderboard in the Carolinas Cup standings.
Katherine DeVore of High Point, N.C. (pictured above right) leads the Race to Carolinas Cup by five points over Kate Fogel of Conover, N.C. DeVore has yet to bring home a victory in a ladies' four-ball play day, but her consistently high finishes and participation have vaulted her to the top of the leaderboard for the season-long points competition. Fogel brought home her first victory, a Gross First Place finish in her flight, with partner Kathy Reynods of Hickory, N.C. at Greensboro Country Club (Farm) earlier this month. With five events remaining and lots more points to be awarded, the Carolinas Cup is still up for grabs.
The Ladies' Race to the Carolinas Cup is a season-long points competition in which players accumulate points based on team finish and participation in CGA Ladies' Four-Ball Play Days. Ladies' Four-Ball Play Days are 18-hole four-ball stroke play events in which teams are flighted based on team Handicap Index and prizes are given for gross and net finishes in each flight. At the end of the Race to the Carolinas Cup regular season, the player with the most points will be named the inaugural Race to the Carolinas Cup champion. Gross and net winners in every flight at each four-ball play day as well as the top 100 in the Carolinas Cup standings are invited to the year-ending Carolinas Cup Tournament. This year, the Carolinas Cup Tournament will be held at Pinehurst Country Club (No. 1) on December 11th.
Thus far in 2016, 214 women have competed in ladies' four-ball play days. 21 ladies have competed in four or more play days and 41 ladies have competed in three or more play days. This women's golf program was started in 2016 to provide female CGA members more opportunities to play and compete in fun, casual events at great courses across North and South Carolina. There are five remaining four-ball play days in 2016 and the 2017 Four-Ball Play Day schedule will be released at the end of the year.
