For the club’s Head Golf Professional, Bob Byrnes, the Hope Valley Junior Invitational offers participants the opportunity to compete on a storied, historic course and enjoy a warm, enthusiastic welcome at this classic private club. “The Hope Valley membership is eager to give back to the game by combining a top competitive golf event with true Southern hospitality,” stated Byrnes. “Of all the tournaments we’ve hosted over the years, this may be closest to the heart of the membership. Growing the game and investing in the future of golf are longstanding priorities at Hope Valley Country Club. We’re looking forward to hosting the tournament this August and for many years to come.”
“Hope Valley Country Club has been a great supporter of junior golf for many years and having them create a tournament like the Hope Valley Junior Invitational really shows their dedication to growing the game of golf. The Carolinas Golf Association is honored that Hope Valley would ask us to be a part of what will become one of the best junior tournaments in the Carolinas,” stated Jason Cox, Director of Junior Golf for the Carolinas Golf Association.
Hope Valley Country Club was founded in 1926 and the course was built by the world-famous golf course architect, Donald J. Ross. Through the years the course has had the distinction of hosting many prestigious golf tournaments including U.S. Amateur Qualifying for both Men and Women, U.S. Senior Men’s Qualifying, North Carolina Amateur Championship, Carolinas Junior Boys’ Championship, Women’s Western Junior National Championship, and Carolinas Junior Girls’ Championship. The tournament the club members may be most proud of took place on April 1, 1945 when Byron Nelson won the Durham Open at Hope Valley. This was his fourth victory out of eleven tournaments in a row — a PGA TOUR record. The current Hope Valley membership recognizes that proud stewardship of these outstanding traditions requires that their club continue to blaze new trails and share their commitment to the great game of golf with upcoming generations.
