Owen Kose of Holly Springs, N.C. outdid his round of 5-under-par, 67 from the day prior, carding a 7-under-par, 65 for his second round on Wednesday. Kose had a bogey-free round, firing five birdies and an eagle on hole No. 5., a par 4.
“I hit the driver just to get up as close to the green as I could,” said Kose. “I had about 40 yards, then I hit a wedge, and it took one bounce and went into the hole.”
Kose stuck to his game plan from Tuesday, which was to hit greens and make putts. Kose attributed his lower score to more putts dropping and hitting a few more shots with higher accuracy. “Today I hit a couple shots a little closer from a little farther distances. The game plan was really the same as yesterday, just giving myself a bunch of looks for putts and however many go in, go in.”
The James Madison University verbal commit and rising senior at Holly Springs High School leads by eight strokes total going into Thursday’s championship round. His thoughts about being the one to chase were simple and straightforward. “My thoughts are just try and forget about the last two days and go into tomorrow like it’s the first day,” said Kose. “ I just want to try to have another solid round.”
Sitting in second going into Thursday’s championship round is St. David’s School rising senior and NC State commit Michael La Sasso of Raleigh, N.C.
Three junior boys sit tied for third, Cole Rouse of Kernersville, N.C., Max Cranford of Newton, N.C., and Jack Dannemann of Charlotte, N.C. Rouse shot 4-under-par, 68, and Dannemann and Cranford shot 1-under-par, 71.
After Wednesday’s Round 2, the field was cut to 77 players. Tee times for the championship round of the Dogwood State Junior Boys’ Championship will commence Thursday from 8:00 am to 9:48 am off of Hole No. 1.
