Woodruff, Einstein and Boyette Lead the NC Am Match Play
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (July 28, 2021) -- First round of stroke play qualifying results of the 12th North Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship at Forsyth Country Club in Winston-Salem, N.C. on July 28, 2021. The field is competing at 6,784 yards, par 36-35--71.

The returning champions put on a show at the 12th North Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship. All three of the returning champions are in the top-5 in the battle for medalist and the No. 1 seed in match play.
The 2019 champion Ben Woodruff of Huntersville, N.C., the 2018 champion Brandon Einstein of Clemmons, N.C. and Bryson Boyette of Wilson, N.C. lead the pack after outstanding 6-under-par, 65 opening rounds.
Boyette and Woodruff both carded bogey-free rounds and Woodruff made an eagle on the par-5, No. 5. Einstein fired off seven birdies on the day to join Boyette and Woodruff atop the leaderboard.
There is another three-way tie for fourth position at 4-under-par, 67. The defending champion Nicholas Mathews of Mebane, N.C., Daniel Barbare of Newport, N.C. and Devon Horne of Hendersonville, N.C. are just two strokes off the lead entering the second round of stroke play qualifying tomorrow.
The second round of stroke play qualifying will begin at 8:00 a.m. with starting times off of Nos. 1 and 10. After the second round the field will be cut to 32 players, determined by an on-course playoff if necessary, for match play starting on Friday. About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers. The CGF has distributed nearly $2,000,000 since 1977 to benefit Carolinas' golf initiatives including junior and women's programs.
