Preview: 43rd Carolinas Women's Four-Ball Championship

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (June 27, 2020) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 43rd Carolinas Women’s Four-Ball Championship at Catawba Country Club in Newton, N.C. from June 30 - July 1, 2020. (6,076 yards, par 36-36--72)

 

The CGA will be conducting this championship under the new COVID-19 Tournament Protocols. Learn more here.

 

Due to these restrictions, the Carolinas Women’s Four-Ball will now only have one division - the Championship Division - and will not include a Senior Division, which will instead be held later this year. This championship will have single riders in carts, and the field size has been reduced to 52.

Teams to watch:

 

• Emma Charles of Hartsville, S.C. and Victoria Hall of Moore, S.C. come to the Carolinas Women’s Four-Ball Championship looking to defend their title from 2019. The two Palmetto State natives play on the women’s golf team at Anderson University where they are a rising sophomore and rising junior respectively. Charles is ranked the No. 25 golfer in the Carolinas Women’s Rankings, while Hall comes in at No. 41. Charles and Hall both earned honorable mention for the All-South Atlantic Conference honors and finished top-two in unadjusted stroke average for the Trojans.

• Jessica Spicer of Bahama, N.C. and Sarah Spicer of Bahama, N.C. finished runner up at the 2019 Carolinas Women’s Four-Ball Championship, and they look to improve upon that finish. The twin sisters are both members of the Virginia Tech women’s golf team. Jessica, the 2019 Carolinas Women's Amateur Champion, is ranked the No. 3 golfer in the Carolinas Women’s Rankings, and Sarah is the No. 17 player in the same rankings.

• Anna Morgan of Spartanburg, S.C. is one of the hottest players in the field, having won the Carolinas Women’s Amateur Championship and the South Carolina Women’s Amateur Championship in back to back weeks at the start of June. Morgan, who is going into her sophomore year on the Furman University women’s golf team, is the No. 31 ranked golfer in the Carolinas Women’s Rankings and will be playing with Furman teammate Carly Burkhardt of Greenville, S.C. Burkhardt is ranked No. 26 in the Carolinas Women’s Rankings.

• Rachel Kuehn of Asheville, N.C. will be playing with Jensen Castle of West Columbia, S.C. Kuehn, the No. 29 golfer in the Carolinas Women’s Rankings and a former champion at the Carolinas Women’s Amateur Championship, is a rising sophomore on the women’s golf team at Wake Forest University. She finished fourth at this year’s Carolinas Women’s Amateur Championship. As for Castle, the rising sophomore at the University of Kentucky set a school record for single-season stroke average with a 71.88 mark and made the All-SEC First Team. 

• Jodee Tindal of Rock Hill, S.C. won the Carolinas Women’s Four-Ball Championship in 2018 playing with her sister, Jaelyn and will be playing this year with Smith Knaffle of Murrells Inlet, S.C. Tindal is ranked the No. 6 player in the Carolinas Women’s Rankings and plays her collegiate golf at the College of Charleston, where she was named All-CAA Second Team. Knaffle, who plays at the University of South Carolina, comes in at No. 43 in the rankings.

 

Catawba Country Club is a member-owned private country club offering 18 holes of championship-caliber golfing experience. Designed by famed architect Donald Ross, the course promises pleasurable, yet challenging play. This will be the second time that the club will host the Carolinas Women’s Four-Ball Championship after previously doing so in 2015.

The championship is conducted at 36 holes of four-ball stroke play.

 

Entry is open to any female amateur golfer who has reached her 13th birthday by July 1, 2020 maintains a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club.
