Adrian Anderson of Murrells Inlet, S.C. took the lead after round one of the 54th Twin States Junior Girls’ Championship. Anderson had a strong round, coming in at 6-under-par, 66.
Anderson started her day with three birdies on her first three holes. She continued to birdie Nos. 6, 11 and 15. Anderson only missed one green in regulation today; topped off with her strong putting and approach shots, she was on a roll.
“My approach shots and my putting were really working for me today. I was hitting them close, then making the putts,“ Anderson said.
Anderson is coming off a recent victory at the WSCGA Junior Championship last week. When asked if she was gaining momentum from her win, she humbly said that she is just playing her game like she always does.
“Really I’m just trying to keep my head down and focus on my game,” Anderson said. “I’m just going to do what I know and try not to get too excited or anything.”
Just two shots off the lead, Molly Hardwick, of Lexington, S.C. had a cool 4-under-par, 68 to take second going into the final round.
“I’m pretty pleased. I think I did well and a lot of things came together,” Hardwick said. A standout hole for Hardwick was No. 3 where she drained a long birdie putt that gave her momentum for the rest of the day.
In third place, from Anderson, S.C. is Chloe Harder, who came in with a score of 1-under-par, 71. Three players are tied for fourth place, Alexia Siehil, of Fort Mill, S.C., Anna Howerton of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Deborah Spair, of Raleigh, N.C., after carding even-par rounds.
