First Round Results: Carolinas Super Senior 4-Ball
Detweiler and Simson look to claim their 9th CGA four-ball title as a team.
RALEIGH, N.C. (October 8, 2019) – First Round Results of the 8th Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball Championship at the Country Club of Wakefield Plantation, in Raleigh N.C. on October 8 2019.

Don Detweiler and Paul Simson of Raleigh, N.C. are in good position to defend their title at the Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball Championship. The duo fired a first round score of 8-under-par, 63 and will take a three-shot lead into Wednesday’s final round.
Sitting in second place is Cliff Seastrunk of Raleigh, N.C. and Raymond Davis of Apex, N.C. after an opening round score of 5-under-par, 66. Two teams are tied for third place after shooting 4-under-par, 67. The 2016 Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball champion, Russ Perry of Winston-Salem, N.C. and his partner Gary Hull of Statesville, N.C. are tied with Todd Turner of West End, N.C. and Dickie Brewer of Winston-Salem, N.C.
In the 70+ Division, last year’s champions, Ernie Newton of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Larry Boswell of High Point, N.C., are also set to defend their title. The defending champions shot an opening round score of 7-under-par, 64 to take a two-shot lead into the final round. Ricky Luzar of Pinehurst, N.C. and Don Slater of Durham, N.C. are sitting in second place in the 70+ Division after an opening round score of 5-under-par, 66.
The championship is contested at 36 holes of four-ball stroke play (Gross scores only). A tie for the Championship Division or 70+ division is decided by an on-course playoff. Teams select the division in which to compete if eligible.
Championship Division (Men Age 65+): Approximate yardage = 6000 yards.
70+ Division (Both team members age 70+): Approximate yardage = 5800 yards.
Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 65th birthday by October 8, 2019, maintains a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club.
