Players to watch:
- Last Year’s Champion, Susan Beaupied of Pittsboro, N.C. is back to defend her title at the Carolinas Senior Women’s Amateur Championship. Beaupied won the weather-shortened event after being the only competitor in last year’s field to shoot even par with a hurricane looming. Beaupied finished T5 in this year’s N.C. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship at Chapel Hill Country Club.
- Jayne Pardus of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. has had a record year with wins at both the WSCGA Senior Championship and the WSCGA Match Play Championship. She was the last Carolinian standing at the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur, making it to the Round of 32.
- Kim Briele of New Bern, N.C. is the 2016 Carolinas Senior Women’s champion and current leader in the Carolinas Senior Women's Rankings. Top finishes for Briele this year include a T5 at the N.C. Women’s Amateur and T11 at the Canadian Senior Women’s Amateur. She finished in third place in the Carolinas Senior Women’s Amateur Championship last year. She also played in the U.S. Senior Women’s Open at Pine Needles.
- Patty Moore of Pinehurst, N.C. has the most Carolinas Senior Women’s titles with seven. In 2017, the trophy for the Championship was named after Moore to honor her outstanding legacy in women’s golf in the Carolinas. 2019 has been a bittersweet golf year for Moore, as she was able to qualify for the U.S. Senior Women’s Open at Pine Needles but had to withdraw due to an injury. She also held the lead going into the final round at the N.C. Senior Women’s Amateur in April but finished in second place. A win this week would be redemption on a year of close calls.
- Pat Brogden of Garner, N.C. was the eventual champion of this year’s N.C. Senior Women’s Amateur. She holds the second most titles in the Carolinas Senior Women’s Championship with six. A win this week would tie her for the most titles along with Moore.
- Our reigning Carolinas Senior Women’s Player of the Year, Lea Anne Brown of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. is hoping to claim her first Carolinas Senior Women’s’ Championship title. Brown was the runner-up in 2017 and finished T5 in this event last year. She also finished T3 in this year’s WSCGA Senior Championship and seventh place at the South Carolina Women’s Open.
- Brenda Kuehn of Asheville, N.C. is a newcomer to the Carolinas Senior Women’s Amateur but she has a long resume in competitive golf. Kuehn, who was a first-team All-American at Wake Forest University, has qualified for nine U.S. Women’s Opens and 13 U.S. Women’s Amateurs. She competed in the 2001 U.S. Women's Open while eight months pregnant with her daughter Rachel, who now plays at Wake Forest. Kuehn was inducted into the Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.
