Preview: 11th Carolinas Super Senior Championship
SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (August 12, 2019) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 11th Carolinas Super Senior Championship at Green Valley Country Club in Greenville, S.C. from August 13-14, 2019.

Paul Simson of Raleigh, N.C. is back to defend his title at the 11th Carolinas Super Senior Championship. Simson is coming in hot off a win at the N.C. Senior Four-Ball Championship at Mill Creek Golf Club last week. The event marked Simson’s third N.C. Senior Four-Ball Championship title and eighth CGA four-ball championship title with his partner Don Detweiler also of Raleigh, N.C. The win also gave Simson his 37th lifetime CGA Championship title.
The championship, originally scheduled for June, was postponed to August due to inclement weather. Here are some players to watch in this year’s field:
Players to watch:
- Russ Perry of Winston-Salem, N.C. is the reigning CGA Men’s Super Senior Player of the Year, a six-time CGA champion and after a second place finish in this event last year he is looking to make this event his seventh championship title. Perry is currently the top-ranked Carolinas Super Senior Men’s Player.
- Paul Simson of Raleigh, N.C. is currently number two on the Carolinas Super Senior Men’s Player Rankings. A win this week would be three in a row for Simson at this event.
- Garrett Garland of Huntersville, N.C. won the 70 plus division in the 2017 Carolinas Super Senior Championship and took first place at the 2017 Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball Championship.
- Robert Desjardins of Matthews, N.C. is a two-time CGA Champion and he placed sixth in this event last year. He and his partner, Bill Boles of Wilson, N.C. finished in a tie for second last week at the N.C. Senior Four-Ball Championship.

The championship is contested at 36 holes of individual stroke play. Gross scores only. A tie for the Championship Division or 70+ division is decided by an on-course playoff. Players may select the division in which to compete if eligible:
Championship Division (Men Age 65+): Approximate yardage = 6,153 yards.
70+ Division (Both team members age 70+): Approximate yardage = 5,659 yards

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 65th birthday by June 7, 2019, and maintains a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active USGA Handicap Index® that does not exceed 15.4 at a CGA member club.
