Players to watch:

  • Will Spicer of Kings Mountain, N.C. is the defending North Carolina Junior Boys' 13 and Under champion. In last year’s championship, Spicer shot a ten-over-par, 80 in stroke-play qualifying and had to compete in a three-man playoff for the final two spots in the championship flight. Spicer birdied the first hole in that playoff to earn the No. 15 seed and never looked back. He won his first two matches 1 up and his last two matches 2 and 1 on route to his first CGA Championship title.
  • Alex Bock of Morganton, N.C. is coming in hot off of two fresh wins in June. Bock won the boys’ age 12-13 division in both the TYGA one-day tournament held at Alamance Country Club in Burlington, N.C. and at Talamore Golf Resort in Southern Pines, N.C.
  • Earlier this month, Preston Howe of Winston-Salem, N.C. finished in first place in the boys’ age 12-13 division at the TYGA Triad Maple Chase Junior at Maple Chase Golf and Country Club in Winston-Salem, N.C. Howe shot a two round total of 5-under, 139 in route to the victory.
  • in April, Will Guthrie of Charlotte, N.C. finished in second place at the Bluffton Spring Junior Open’s age 11-13 division after firing a two round total of 11-over, 155.
  • Connor Williams of Sanford, N.C. finished in second place earlier this month at the TYGA One-Day Tournament at Chapel Hill Country Club in Chapel Hill, N.C. Williams posted a 7-over, 79 to finish second in the boys’ age 12-13 division.

Previous Champions in the Field (1): Will Spicer of Kings Mountain, N.C. 2018 Champion

Asheboro Municipal Golf Course is a 9 hole course designed by Donald Ross in 1935. There will be a mix of the red and white tees being used to create approximately a 5,520 yard layout.

The championship is conducted at match play. There is an 18-hole stroke-play qualifying round to determine match play flights and seeding. The top 16 from the stroke-play qualifying will qualify for the championship flight. The other players will be in flights of 8 players based on their qualifying score. The championship flight will play 4 rounds of match play. All matches will be 9-hole matches with the championship match being an 18-hole match (no elimination). All other flights will play 3 rounds of 9-hole matches (no elimination). Since there is no elimination, players are encouraged to play all rounds of match play even if they are defeated in an earlier round. If a player fails to withdraw from the event properly, he will be suspended from all CGA / TYGA events for one year.

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has not reached his 14th birthday by July 2, 2019, is a legal resident of North Carolina and the junior golfer, parent or guardian is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA).
