Preview: 68th Carolina Four-Ball

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (May 1, 2019) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 68th Carolinas Four-Ball Championship from May 3-6, 2019 at Camden Country Club in Camden, S.C.

Sides to watch:

  • Rob Butler of Camden, S.C. and John Asay of Columbia, S.C. made it all the way to the semifinals of last year’s championship before getting knocked out by the eventual winners. Butler, the General Manager at Camden Country Club, will use his course knowledge to try to bring the hardware to the home club.
  • Bobby Dean of Charlotte, N.C. and Robert Preston of Mathews, N.C. also made it to the semifinals of last year’s event before being eliminated.
  • Walter Todd Jr. of Greenville, S.C. and Brandon Truesdale of Rock Hill, S.C. have teamed up to capture two SCGA Four-Ball Championships.
  • Our 2018 Junior Boys’ Player of the Year, Jonathan Griz of Hilton Head Island, S.C. will team up with Nick Dunlap of Greer, S.C.
  • Our 2014 Carolinas Four-Ball champion Jonathan Jackson of Chapel Hill, N.C., will team up with Scott Patnode of Belmont, N.C.
  • Our 2009 champion Walter Todd Sr. of Laurens, S.C. will team up with son Neal Todd of Laurens, S.C.

Championship Format

The format for the 2019 Carolinas Four-Ball Championship has changed slightly from years past. The event begins Friday, May 3rd with the first round of a 36-hole qualifier. Players will be chasing the 18-hole record score of 59 shot in 1986 by the team of Bill Bowers and Jonny Banks from Columbia, S.C. The record 36-hole qualifying score of 123 shot on the par-70 layout was posted last year by Dean and Preston.  

After the second round of four-ball stroke play qualifying on May 4th, the field will be cut to the low 16 teams for match play. The first two rounds of match play will commence on Sunday, May 5th. The Semifinals and Championship matches will be played on Monday, May 6th to determine the winners.

2018 Champions: Carson Ownbey of Candler, N.C. and Ben Woodruff of Huntersville, N.C. captured the 67th Carolinas Four-Ball Championship winning 4 & 3 over Alex Ellis and Logan Harrell of Charleston S.C.

Eligibility: Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 13th birthday by May 3, 2019, maintains a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club.

Quarterfinals (18 Holes). PM Tee times off #1

Saturday, May 6
Semifinals (18 Holes). 8:00AM and 8:10AM off #1 tee
Championship Match (18 Holes). PM tee time off #1
