Ownbey and Woodruff Capture Carolinas Four-Ball

Carson Ownbey of Candler, NC and Ben Woodruff of Huntersville, NC captured the 67th Carolinas Four-Ball Championship winning 4 & 3 over Alex Ellis and Logan Harrell of Charleston SC. Ownbey and Woodruff went down early after Ellis and Harrell birdied the first two holes to go up two. Rattling off three birdies in a row, on 3, 4, and 5 Woodruff and Ownbey were able to take a one-up lead. "We really settled down after that," said Woodruff.

After halves on the next three holes, Ownbey made a 10 footer for par to halve the 9th, "that was a big momentum putt," said Ownbey. With momentum on their side, Ownbey and Woodruff were able to win 10 and 11 to take a 3 up lead with seven holes to play. The future University of North Carolina Charlotte teammates continued their strong play halving 12 and 13. With a birdie on 14 the duo were dormie standing on the 15th tee. With both partners hitting the green all that was needed was a two-putt par for the win.

The winners credited their great team effort for the win, "we really piggybacked off one another," said Ownbey. With six rounds in four days, the pair were able to maintain focus, "we never got down" said Woodruff. When asked what a Carolinas Golf Association Championship meant to them, "it's exciting to win because both of us have finished runner-up at CGA match play events," said Ownbey. Woodruff added, "It will be nice to get our name on that trophy."
