Virginias leads Carolinas by a point after Day 1

The Carolinas team has some ground to make up if they want to win their third straight Carolinas-Virginias title.

PINEHURST, N.C. (August 11, 2018) -- Foursome and four-ball match results of the 36th Carolinas-Virginias Team Matches at the Country Club of North Carolina (Cardinal) in Pinehurst, N.C. on Saturday, August 11 (7,215 yards, Par 36-36--72, Course Rating 75.2/140).

The afternoon four-ball matches belonged to the Virginias team on the first day of competition at the 36th Carolinas-Virginias Junior Team Matches. The Virginias won three of the four matches in the afternoon to take a one point lead over the Carolinas heading into the second and final day of competition.

The Carolinas held the lead by one point after winning two of the morning foursome matches and halving another. But they did not have the same luck in the afternoon.

Kenan Poole of Raleigh N.C. and Thomas Eubanks of Charlotte, N.C. were the only group able to pull out a victory in the afternoon with a 3 and 2 victory over their Virginian counterparts.

Bronson Myers of Columbia, S.C. and Keegan Vaugh of Myrtle Beach, S.C. combined to win their morning foursome match 5 and 4, but both were beaten 2 and 1 in the afternoon in four-ball play.

Tomorrow's competition consists of eight singles matches to decide the winning team. If the Virginias team wins tomorrow it will be their first victory since 2015 and only their second in the last eight years.
 

Boys’ team members must be 18 years of age or younger and who have not started college.

If any invitee is not still eligible or does not accept the invitation, a captain’s pick will be used at the discretion of the team captain.  Invited players must have played in at least 1 CGA junior championship the year of matches.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
