Carolinas-Virginias Boys' Matches Preview

Spencer Oxendine of Fayetteville, N.C. - Oxendine, a high school senior, is ranked #1 on the N.C. Junior Boys' rankings. Oxendine won the Jimmy Creed Boys' Invitational and was the runner-up in the N.C. Men's Amateur Championship along with a tied for third finish in the Carolinas Boys' Championship. Oxendine has verbally committed to play golf at N.C. State University.

 

 

 

 

Kenan Poole, II of Raleigh, N.C. - Poole, a high school senior, won the Jimmy Anderson Boys' Invitational is and ranked #6 on the N.C. Junior Boys' rankings. Poole was the qualifying medalist in the U.S. Junior Amateur and advanced to match play in the championship proper.  Poole has verbally committed to play golf at UNC-Chapel Hill.

 

 

 

Fulton Smith of Pinehurst, N.C. - Smith, a high school senior, won the 2016 and 2017 Dogwood State Junior Boys' Championship. Smith was the qualifying medalist in the US Junior Amateur and advanced to match play in the championship proper. This is the third time Smith has represented the Carolinas in the junior team matches. Smith has verbally committed to play golf at Wake Forest University.

 

 

Drayton Stewart of Charleston, S.C. - Stewart, a high school senior, won the Carolinas Junior Boys' Championship in July and is currently ranked 18th in the S.C. Boys' rankings. Stewart has racked up 11 top-15 finishes in 2018 including a semifinal finish at the S.C. Junior Match Play. Stewart has verbally committed to play golf at Clemson University.

 

 

 

Keegan Vaugh of Myrtle Beach, S.C. - Vaugh, a high school junior, won the S.C. Junior Match Play Championship and is ranked 21st in the S.C. Boys' rankings. Vaugh has eight top-5 finishes in 2018 including a second place finish at the Blade Junior Classic and a fourth place finish at the Carolinas Junior PGA Championship.

 

 

Eligibility

Boys’ team members must be 18 years of age or younger and who have not started college.
The following are invited to participate in the Carolinas-Virginias junior team matches:

• 2018 SCGA SC Junior Champion

• 2018 CGA NC Junior Champion

• 2018 CGA SC Junior Match Play Champion

• 2018 CGA Carolinas Junior Champion and Runner-up

• 2017 Dogwood State Junior Champion

• 2 captain's picks

 

If any invitee is not still eligible or does not accept the invitation, a captain’s pick will be used at the discretion of the team captain.  Invited players must have played in at least 1 CGA junior championship the year of matches.

Foursome Match Play Tee Times: 7:30 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.

 

Four-Ball Match Play Tee Times: 1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.

 

Banquet: 7:00 p.m.

 

Sunday, August 12

 

Singles Match Play Tee Times: 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.

 

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)

The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers.
