Adam leads after first round of Dogwood Girls

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (August 7, 2018) -- First round results of the 14th Dogwood State Girls' Championship at Chapel Hill Country Club in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 (5,971 yards, Par 36-36--72, Course Rating 74.3/139).

Nicole Adam of Pinehurst, N.C. leads the field of the 14th Dogwood State Girls' Championship at Chapel Hill Country Club after the opening round. She carded an even par 72 to start off the three-day competition.

Adam, who is a rising high school junior, showed consistency throughout the round. She shot even par on both nines and carded a birdie and a bogey on each side. The key to her performance was her ability to make par on the tough course that the entire field found challenging. With two days left of competition, the UNC-Chapel Hill commit holds a three stroke lead over the rest of the field.

Sophie Holland of Cornelius, N.C. is currently in second place after she carded a three-over-par 75 in the opening round with one birdie. Two time CGA champion Rachel Kuehn of Asheville, N.C. finished the round with a four-over-par 76 after birdying her final hole. Defending champion, Sasha Hayes of Winston-Salem is in the mix and is five shots back from Adam.
 

The championship format is 54 holes of stroke play competition.

Entry is open to any female golfer ages 12 to 18 as of August 9, 2018, who has not started college, is a legal resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a current USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club.
