Simson Leads at Carolinas Super Senior
GASTONIA, NC (May 9, 2018) – First round results of the 10th Carolinas Super Senior Championship at Gaston Country Club in Gastonia, NC on Wednesday, May 9, 2018.

Defending champion and all-time winningest CGA golfer Paul Simson of Raleigh, NC wowed the field with a first-round score of 6-under par 66. Simson holds a four-shot advantage after the first round of the 10th Carolinas Super Senior Championship at Gaston Country Club.
"I putted really well and didn’t make a lot of silly mistakes," said Simson. Even with missing chances at birdies on three of the par-5s, Simson still managed seven birdies against one bogey on the day. He holds a four-shot advantage over Russ Perry of Winson-Salem, NC and Gary Hull of Cornelius, NC.
In the 70+ division, Lynn Martin from Travelers Rest, SC, Ernie Newton of Winston-Salem, NC and Bob Pitzer from Fort Mill, SC were the only golfers under par. Martin and Newton’s rounds of two-under par 70 lead Pitzer’s one-under 71 heading into the final round.
Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 65th birthday, maintains a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA), and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® that does not exceed 15.4 at a CGA member club.
