Carolinas Roster Set for 61st Virginias-Carolinas Women's Team Matches

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (July 14, 2017) -- The 61st Virginias-Carolinas Women's Team Matches will be held at Spring Creek Golf Club in Gordonsville, V.A. on July 17-19, 2017. The annual team match is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association, Virginia State Golf Association and West Virginia Golf Association.

The Virginias-Carolinas Women's Team Matches originated in 1957. The matches pit some of the best female golfers from North and South Carolina against their Virginia and West Virginia counterparts. The championship consists of four-ball match play, modified alternate shot four-ball match play and singles matches. In the format, a point is scored for winning the outward half, the inward nine and the overall match.

The Carolinas team returns 13 players from the 2016 roster, including team captains Angela Stewart of Greenville, N.C. and Terrie Allemang of Hilton Head, S.C. At last year's championship, hosted by River Landing Golf Club in Wallace, N.C., the Carolinas team brought home their seventh-straight victory over the Virginias team with a score of 84-60. The Carolinas team leads all time in the series, 39-24.

Eligibility: Invitation only. Each team consists of 24 total players; 14 amateur players (ages 18+), eight senior players (ages 50+) and two super senior players (ages 60+).

Team Selection: Automatic exemptions on the Carolinas Team go to the Carolinas Women's Match Play Champion, Carolinas Women's Four-Ball Champions (2), Carolinas Women's Amateur Champion, Carolinas Women's Amateur Runner-Up, Carolinas Senior Women's Amateur Champion and Carolinas Senior Women's Four-Ball Champions (2). Additional spots are filled based on the Carolinas Women's and Senior Women's rankings. Four spots are also reserved for captain's picks.

Format: Day 1: Four-Ball Match Play. Day 2: Modified Alternate Shot Four-Ball Match Play. Day 3: Singles Matches. A point is scored for winning the outward half, the inward nine and the overall match.

Winner: 144 points are available. The Carolinas team needs to secure 72 points to bring home the eighth-straight victory. The Virginias team needs to secure 72 1/2 points to take home the trophy.

Amateurs

Sarah Bae, 23, of Pinehurst, N.C. - Currently ranked T15 in the Carolinas Women's Rankings. Bae is a six-time CGA Champion, including back-to-back wins at the Carolinas Young Amateur in 2015 and 2016. Bae is a recent graduate of NC State and boasted a 73.8 stroke average with three top-10 finishes in her senior season.

Sarah Bertram, 22, of Concord, N.C. - Currently ranked13th in the Carolinas Women's Rankings. Bertram is a past CGA champion (2016 Carolinas Women's Four-Ball with partner Taylor Dodson). She finished in the top-10 of the Carolinas Women's Amateur, T4 in the Carolinas Women's Four-Ball (with partner Taylor Dodson), and T7 in the North Carolina Women's Amateur. Bertram is a recent graduate of Gardner Webb University and capped off her college career with a T11 individual finish and a second-place team finish in the Big South Women's Golf Championship.

Mary Chandler Bryan, 24, of Chapin, S.C. - Bryan is a 2016 graduate of the College of Charleston and is currently ranked T17 in the Carolinas Women's Rankings. Bryan finished T2 at the Carolinas Women's Amateur with rounds of 72-72-74--218. Bryan also finished T6 at the WSCGA Amateur Championship.

Hannah Craver, 22, of Winston Salem, N.C. - Craver is a recent graduate of Appalachian State University and finished her senior year with a 77.0 stroke average. Craver had four top-10 finishes in her senior season.

Abbey Hartsell, 20, of Hickory, N.C. - Hartsell recently finished T10 in the North Carolina Women's Amateur and T11 in the Carolinas Women's Amateur. Hartsell is a rising junior at Lenoir Rhyne University. In her sophomore season, Hartsell finished 7th at the NCAA Division-II South Super Regional and was named to the WGCA NCAA Division-II All-American Second Team.

Mary Katelyn Holanek, 23, of Cary, N.C. - Holanek finished in the top-15 at the Carolinas Women's Amateur. Holanek is a graduate student at Virginia Tech and finished her playing career at Virginia Tech last year after playing for three years at Campbell University.

Victoria Huskey, 19, of Greenville, S.C. - Currently ranked T17 in the Carolinas Women's Rankings. Huskey finished T2 in the Carolinas Women's Amateur with rounds of 73-73-72--218. Huskey also finished T7 in the Carolinas Young Amateur. Huskey is a rising sophomore at College of Charleston.

Courtney McKim, 26, of Raleigh, N.C. - Currently ranked 4th in the Carolinas Women's Rankings and a past CGA Champion (2015 Carolinas Women's Four-Ball). McKim recently finished T9 at the Women's Trans National Amateur Championship with a a closing round of two-under-par 70. McKim finished T2 in the North Carolina Women's Amateur, 9th in the Carolinas Women's Amateur and made it to the Round of 16 in the prestigious Doherty Women's Amateur Championship. McKim qualified for match play in the 2016 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship.

Cecily Overbey, 21, of High Point, N.C. - Currently the top-ranked women's golfer in the Carolinas. Overbey is the 2016 Carolinas Women's Match Play Champion. She also made it to the Round of 32 at the Women's Western Amateur Championship, finished T4 in the Carolinas Women's Four-Ball (with partner/sister Madison Overbey) and finished T21 in the Women's Eastern Amateur. Overbey is a rising senior at NC State.

Anna Redding, 20, of Concord, N.C. - Redding most recently won four matches to make it to the championship match of the North & South Women's Amateur Championship. Redding is currently ranked 11th in the Carolinas Women's Rankings. Redding is a rising junior at the University of Virginia. She competed as an individual at the NCAA Regional Championship in Athens this year and led UVA in scoring with a 74.63 stroke average. Redding is ranked No. 29 in the ACC in stroke average.

Jessica Spicer, 19, of Bahama, N.C. - Currently ranked 9th in the Carolinas Women's Rankings and a past CGA Champion (2014 Carolinas Junior Girls'). Spicer is the 2017 North Carolina Women's Amateur Champion and most recently made it to the Round of 16 in the North & South Women's Amateur. Spicer finished 6th in the Eastern Women's Amateur and 2nd in the Carolinas Young Amateur. Spicer is a rising sophomore at Virginia Tech and finished with a 77.17 stroke average in her freshman year. She recorded two top-20 finishes for the Hokies, including an 8th place finish at the Starmount Fall Classic.

Emily Stinson, 22, of Charlotte, N.C. - Stinson is a recent graduate of Appalachian State University and finished her college career with a 76.52 stroke average. Stinson's senior year included six top-15 finishes and a win at the Dayton Hilton Head Invite. Stinson is currently ranked 27th in the Carolinas Women's Rankings.

Kayla Thompson, 21, of Whiteville, N.C. - Currently ranked 8th in the Carolinas Women's Rankings. Thompson finished T2 in the Carolinas Women's Amateur with scores of 74-71-73--218. Thompson was also a semi-finalist in the 2016 Carolinas Women's Match Play and finished T2 in the Carolinas Women's Four-Ball (with partner Lea Venable). Thompson is a rising senior at University of North Carolina Wilmington. In her junior season, Thompson finished with a stroke average of 78.1.

Lea Venable, 43, of Simpsonville, S.C. - Currently ranked 7th in the Carolinas Women's Rankings and a three-time CGA Champion. Venable finished T2 in the Carolinas Women's Four-Ball (with partner Kayla Thompson), T6 in the WSCGA Amateur Championship, Runner-Up at the 2016 WSCGA Amateur Match Play and was a Quarterfinalist at the 2016 Carolinas Women's Match Play. Venable is a veteran on the team and one of the best mid-amateurs in North and South Carolina.

Seniors/Super Seniors

Terrie Allemang, 57, of Hilton Head, S.C. - Currently ranked 9th in the Carolinas Senior Women's Rankings. Allemang finished 6th in the WSCGA Senior Championship and 4th in the 2016 Carolinas Senior Women's Amateur. Allemang is co-captain of the Carolinas Team and will be head captain in 2017, representing South Carolina.

Susan Beaupied, 59, of Pittsboro, N.C. - Currently ranked 4th in the Carolinas Senior Women's Rankings. Beaupied finished T6 in the 2016 Carolinas Senior Women's Amateur, T13 in the 2016 North & South Senior Women's Amateur and qualified for the 2016 U.S. Senior Women's Amateur. In 2017, Beaupied finished 8th in the North Carolina Senior Women's Amateur and T7 in the Carolinas Senior Women's Four-Ball (with partner Leigh Coulter).

Kim Briele, 56, of New Bern, N.C. - Currently the top-ranked senior women's player in the Carolinas and a three-time CGA Champion. Briele won the 2016 Carolinas Senior Women's Amateur and finished 6th in the North Carolina Senior Women's Amateur in 2017. Briele also finished T2 in the Carolinas Women's Senior Four-Ball (with partner Patty Moore). Briele qualified for the 2016 U.S. Senior Women's Amateur and finished T13 in the 2016 North & South Senior Women's Amateur.

Lea Anne Brown, 57, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. - Currently ranked 2nd in the Carolinas Senior Women's Rankings. Brown recently won the WSCGA Senior Championship which included an impressive first-round two-over-par 74. Brown competed in the 2016 U.S. Senior Women's Amateur and made it to the Round of 32.

Leigh Coulter, 59, of Hopkins, S.C. - Currently ranked 7th in the Carolinas Senior Women's Rankings. Coulter finished 10th in the WSCGA Senior Championship and T7 in the Carolinas Senior Women's Four-Ball (with partner Susan Beaupied). In 2016, Coulter finished T17 in the North & South Senior Women's Amateur and T8 in the Carolinas Senior Women's Amateur.

Natalie Huff, 54, of Elgin, S.C. - Currently ranked in the top-20 of the Carolinas Senior Women's Rankings. Huff finished 12th at the WSCGA Senior Championship and T15 in the 2016 Carolinas Senior Women's Amateur.

Patty Moore, 67, of Charlotte, N.C. - Currently ranked 5th in the Carolinas Senior Women's Rankings. Moore is a CGA legend with 19 CGA Championships to her name, including seven Carolinas Senior Women's Amateur titles and four North Carolina Senior Women's Amateur titles. In 2017, Moore finished 2nd at the North Carolina Senior Women's Amateur and T2 at the Carolinas Women's Four-Ball (with partner Kim Briele). Moore also finished T2 at the 2016 Carolinas Senior Women's Amateur.

Pam Prescott, 53, of Piedmont, S.C. - Currently ranked in the top-20 of the Carolinas Senior Women's Rankings. Prescott finished 2nd at the WSCGA Senior Championship.

Angela Stewart, 63, of Greenville, N.C. - Currently ranked 6th in the Carolinas Senior Women's Rankings and a past CGA Champion (North Carolina Senior Women's Amateur). Stewart won the Carolinas Senior Women's Four-Ball (with partner Pat Brogden) after a dramatic playoff. Stewart also finished T3 in the North Carolina Senior Women's Amateur and T6 in the 2016 Carolinas Senior Women's Amateur. Stewart is in her final year as captain of the Carolinas Team, representing North Carolina.

Anne Washington, 60, of Conway, S.C. - Washington is a long-time veteran and former captain of the Carolinas Team. Washington finished T4 at the Carolinas Senior Women's Four-Ball (with partner Cynthia Curry).

Competition begins on Monday, July 17th with four-ball match play.
