Top Ranked Players in 103rd Carolinas Amateur

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (July 10, 2017) -- The Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) will conduct the 103rd Carolinas Amateur Championship at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek in Johns Island, S.C. on July 13-16. (7,130 yards, par 36-36--72, Course/Slope Rating: 74.5/143).
The Carolinas Amateur returns to the South Carolina Lowcountry for the second straight year when The Golf Club at Briar's Creek on John's Island hosts the championship from Thursday, July 13th - Sunday, July 16th.

In last year's championship held at the Country Club of Charleston, Christian Sease of Mount Pleasant, S.C. outlasted a six-hour weather delay and a four-hole playoff with 2012 Carolinas Amateur champ Carson Young of Pendleton, S.C. before hoisting the Richard S. Tufts Trophy as Carolinas Amateur champion.
The championship is conducted at 72 holes of stroke play. After 36 holes, there will be a cut to the low 60 scores and ties. Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 13th birthday by the first day of the championship, is a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the CGA and has an active GHIN USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club that does not exceed 7.4.
133 players are in the field for the 103rd edition of the CGA's flagship event. The average age is 25-years-old. Exempt players were automatically accepted while others were required to qualify through one of seven 18-hole qualifiers.

Eric Bae, 19, of Pinehurst, N.C. is a two-time CGA champion. Ranked 9th in the Carolinas, last week Bae qualified for the 2017 U.S. Amateur. A rising sophomore at Wake Forest, Bae finished tied for 21st in last year's Carolinas Amateur.

Julian Keur, 21, Summerville, S.C. captured his first CGA title by defeating Todd White in the finals of the 2017 S.C. Amateur Match Play. Ranked 11th in the Carolinas, Keur is a rising senior at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. He finished T5 at last year's championship.

Christian Sease, 23, of Mount Pleasant, S.C. is the Carolinas Amateur defending champion. A former Winthrop golfer, Sease is currently ranked 18th in the Carolinas.

Jackson Spires, 22, of Fayetteville, N.C. has top-10 finishes at the 2017 CPGA NC Open, 2016 Eastern Amateur, CCNC Amateur and Carolinas Young Amateur. Ranked 19th, Spires is a rising redshirt senior at East Carolina University.

Thomas Todd, III, 30, of Laurens, S.C. is ranked 20th in the Carolinas. Searching for his first individual CGA win, Todd held the lead heading into the final round of the 2017 Carolinas Mid-Amateur Championship, finishing fifth.

Austin Zoller, 21, of Summerville, S.C. held the 36-hole lead at last year's championship, then finished in third place. Ranked 23rd in the Carolinas, Zoller placed T3 at the 2016 Carolinas Young Amateur.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers. The CGA is the second largest golf association in the country with over 700 member clubs represented by nearly 150,000 individuals.
The CGA annually conducts 48 championships and five team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors. It also runs over 150 One-Day (net and gross) events as well as qualifying for USGA national championships. The CGF has distributed nearly $2,000,000 since 1977 to benefit Carolinas' golf initiatives including junior and women's programs.
