Round of 32: In the biggest upset of the day, No. 32 seed Brandon Coggins of Gaffney defeated No. 1 seed and defending champion Connor Bruns of Duncan. Coggins advanced to match play by way of a playoff on Thursday and carried that momentum into today. Bruns did jump out to an early lead on the par-4 fourth, however Coggins was able to square the match through nine. Coggins birdied 10 to go 1 up and was able to advance from there with a 3-and-2 win.
Medalist and No. 2 seed Todd White defeated Wil Sheppard of Mt. Pleasant 3-and-2. White made par on the par-4 fourth to go one-up. Sheppard responded by making birdie on the par-5 sixth to square the match. Then, birdies by White on the par-4 ninth and par-5 13th gave him a two up advantage, only to seal the victory with another birdie on the par-4 16th.
No. 30 seed Christian Garruppo of Hilton Head knocked off No. 3 seed Matt O'Quinn of Beaufort by a score of 2-and-1. Garruppo wasted no time, going three-up in as many holes. O'Quinn would respond by recording wins on holes 10 and 11. After O'Quinn bogeyed the par-3 8th, their 17th hole, Garruppo capitalized, making par to seal the match.

Round of 16: No. 17 seed Robert Lutomski of Simpsonville was the first golfer to claim his spot in the quarterfinals, defeating Austin Zoller of Summerville 4&2 in the morning round and Brandon Coggins of Gaffney 4&3 in the afternoon round. Lutomski and Coggins would each claim a win on their first two holes. However, three birdies and two pars by Lutomski helped him claim five straight. "I played pretty solid," said Lutomski. "I played steady all day and made a lot of pars." Heading into the quarterfinals, he plans to bring the same approach that has given him recent success. "If you can control your spin into these greens and keep hitting close like I have been, eventually the birdies will go in."
No. 10 seed Andrew Orischak of Hilton Head secured his spot in the quarterfinals after beating Matt Carter of Easley one up in the Round of 32 and Thomas Todd, III of Laurens 5&4 in the Round of 16. After Todd birdied the par-3 eighth to cut his lead to one up, Orischak caught fire, claiming four of next five holes, most notably using an 8-iron to set up an eagle putt on the par-5 13th. "The best thing that I did today was that I did not make a bogey," said Orischak. "One of my goals in match play is to not make too many mistakes and try to keep it pretty steady." While Orischak, a rising sophomore at the University of Virginia, stated he played well in the morning, he felt he played his best golf during the afternoon. "I just stayed really patient and I knew I was playing some good golf. Patience and consistency were things I was focusing on today."
Medalist Todd White advanced to the quarterfinals after knocking off John O'Brien of Columbia in 19 holes. On the par-4 17th, O'Brien made a 40-foot birdie putt to go one-up, however, his second shot on the par-5 18th found the water, giving White the chance to make the match squared. "I was just happy to be going to the 19th hole," White said. "I knew there was life then and I just had to execute the shot." White will face a familiar opponent in Orischak in the quarterfinals and looks forward to the chance of competing against him. "I have known Andrew for a number of years now from when I was teaching in Hilton Head. Everyone knows that he is a great player, but more importantly he is a quality young man and a great asset to golf."
Brady Hinkle of Lancaster, the 2016 SC Junior Match Play champion, advanced to the quarterfinals after a one up victory over Christian Garruppo. Also advancing was Stan Sill of Spartanburg, who beat Jake Corn of Rock Hill in 19-holes. Julian Keur of Summerville advanced with a 2-and-1 victory over Logan Sowell of Kershaw. Parker Dudley of John's Island defeated William Harwoord 5-and-3 and Nick Russell of Hilton Head was victorious over J.J. Jordan of Ninety Six to lock in their spots for the quarterfinals.
