More than 280 CGA Events Scheduled for 2017
SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (February 9, 2017) -- Entering its 108th year of conducting state and regional championships for amateur golfers, the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) has confirmed the sites and dates for its 2017 tournament schedule.
This year the CGA will conduct more than 280 tournaments, including: 43 championships, 46 championship qualifiers, 18 USGA national championship qualifiers, 117 one-day tournaments, 49 Tarheel Youth Golf Association (TYGA) events, five team match events, two Interclub seasons, and an island four-ball getaway. That schedule may continue to grow as the season progresses.

The 103rd edition of CGA's flagship event, the Carolinas Amateur Championship, will be contested July 13-16 at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek in Johns Island, S.C. An integral part of the Briar's Creek experience is the way golf and the natural environment complement each other. There is no shortage of water, marshes, wetlands and wildlife, along with the occasional bunker, rough, and gently rolling, but quick putting surfaces. This Rees Jones masterpiece embraces the rich, Lowcountry landscape and vegetation of Johns Island and the Kiawah River.
New this year, the CGA will conduct concurrent qualifiers. These will be two separate qualifiers run at the same time. Competitors playing can enter into one or both qualifying fields. If playing in both, their one score will count for two separate championship qualifiers. There will be concurrent qualifiers for the Carolinas Amateur and North Carolina Amateur, as well as the Carolinas Amateur and North Carolina Amateur Match Play.
A new championship for North Carolina men age 65 and older will be played on the Farm Course at Greensboro Country Club from March 29-30. The Inaugural North Carolina Super Senior Four-Ball will feature 36 holes of four-ball stroke play.
For the fifth consecutive year, Camden Country Club in Camden, S.C. will host two CGA championships in May. In its 66th playing, the Carolinas Four-Ball Championship returns to the club from May 3-7 for the 17th consecutive year. The 5th Jimmy Creed Boys' Invitational is set to be played at the club from May 27-28.
In women's golf, the 91st Carolinas Women's Amateur travels to Porter's Neck Country Club in Wilmington, N.C., from June 2-4. A new event has been added to the women's schedule. The inaugural Carolinas Women's Club Team Championship will take place November 7-9 on the Jackson Course at Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, N.C. Four-person teams representing a home club will play 18 holes of four-ball stroke play qualifying, then rounds of four-ball match play.
The CGA continues to expand its offering of ladies' only one-day four-ball tournaments. A kickoff event will be held at Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club and Pines Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C. from March 27-28. The CGA boasts an impressive championship season for boys and girls. The 68th Carolinas Junior Boys' Championship will be played July 25-27 at Cabarrus Country Club in Concord, N.C. From August 1-3, the 61st Carolinas Junior Girls' Championship will be contested at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, S.C.
The Tarheel Youth Golf Association (TYGA), which is the CGA’s program for North Carolina junior golfers, offers a tournament schedule geared for all levels of abilities. The 49 events set for this year are open to boys and girls ages 6-18. "TYGA Tots" will continue to provide tournament golf experience for 6-11 year olds. The CGA One-Day Tournament program offers individual and four-ball competitions using both gross and net formats. The 42 tournaments are open to any CGA member with a USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club. View the One-Day schedule at www.carolinasgolf.org/One-Day-Tournaments.
The Carolinas Senior Four-Ball One-Day Tournament series will have 58 events on its 2017 schedule. The popular two-man, best-ball, one-day tournaments open to male amateurs over the age of 55, historically have more entrants than spots available at most events.
