Matthew Crenshaw Takes Five Shot Lead at Carolinas Mid-Amateur
PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC – Second round results of the 34rd Carolinas Mid-Amateur Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by The Reserve Golf Club in Pawleys Island, SC on Saturday, April 5, 2014 (6805 yards, par 36-36—72, 72.4/135).
First round leader Matthew Crenshaw of Burlington, NC carded a second consecutive round of four-under 68 (136) to extend his lead to five strokes over 2007 Carolinas Mid-Amateur champion Walter Todd, Sr. of Laurens, SC. Crenshaw is aiming for his fifth CGA championship title.
Brian Westveer of Charlotte, NC also carded a four-under 68 to move up to third place at 142.
Two-time defending champion, Scott Harvey of Greensboro, NC, posted a two-under 70 to get into the red numbers at 143 and stands alone in fourth place.
The field was cut to the low 60 scores and ties for the final round. The cut line fell at 158 with 60 players advancing to Sunday’s final round.
