Gina Kim Wins 47th Twin States Junior Girls Championship

Morganton, NC – Final results of the 47th Twin States Junior Girls Golf Championship hosted by Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club on Wednesday, July 31, 2013.  Par 36-36—72 5812 yards.  (74.1/132).

13-year-old Gina Kim of Chapel Hill, NC captured her first CGA major championship title by shooting a 4-under par round of 68—140 to edge out first round leader Reona Hirai of Summerville, SC by one shot.  Kim carded six birdies and two bogeys on her final round card with four of her birdies coming on the tougher inward back nine.  “I was able to shoot at the flagsticks because the greens were so soft,” Kim said.  “I was lucky enough that my putting was pretty good today.  I’m so happy to have won this tournament.”  Defending champion, Sydney Legacy of Lexington, SC shot a 3-under par round of 69 and finished in third place.

This championship was conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association which is in its 104th year of serving amateur golf in North and South Carolina and is one of seven championships conducted just for girls.
