Edmondson/Byman Extend Lead
Morganton, N.C. – Second round results of the 16th North Carolina Senior Four-Ball Championship hosted by Mimosa Hills Golf Club in Morganton, N.C. on Thursday, August 4, 2016 (6,323yards, par 36-36—72, 71.1/132).
Preston Edmondson of Morrisville, N.C. and Ed Byman of Raleigh, N.C. came into the second round with the lead and played well enough to maintain their spot on top of the leaderboard. Byman contributed two birdies on the front nine while Edmondson had one. Edmondson got the pair going on the backside with a birdie on No. 12. Byman then posted back-to-back birdies on 13 and 14. Edmondson capped off the six-under-par round of 66 with a birdie on No. 18. That is good enough for 16-under-par 128 and a four stroke lead heading into the final round.
John Fritz and Doug Meggs, both of Mint Hill, N.C. also shot six-under-par 66. The team matched their first round score leaving them at 12-under-par 132 which leaves them tied for second. Tom Fagerli of Yadkinville, N.C. and Bill Long of Ahoskie, N.C. have also produced back-to-back rounds of six-under-par 66 leaving them in a tie for second at 12-under-par 132.
The cut line fell at four-under-par 140. 37 teams ended up making the cut and will play in the final round Friday.
The championship is contested over 54-holes of four-ball stroke play. After Thursday’s round, the field of 67 teams will be cut to the low 30 scores and ties for the final round on Friday.
The North Carolina Senior Four-Ball Championship is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by August 3, 2016, is a resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association and has an active USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club.
