Bridgeman takes lead in Carolinas Boys'

 

The 138 player field had to battle the temperature and the challenging Windermere Club layout during the first round of the 67th Carolinas Junior Boys' Championship. Jacob Bridgeman of Inman, S.C. overcame both en route to an opening round three-under-par 69. After an early bogey, Bridgeman immediately bounced back with a birdie on No. 13, his fourth hole. Bridgeman closed that side with birdies on Nos. 16 and 18 to make the turn two-under par. "I hit a lot of greens on my front nine. My birdies were pretty much within four or five feet," Bridgeman said. The Inman native kept his steady play going with birdies on Nos. 2 and 6 before giving one back with a bogey on the lengthy par-4 eighth. "I got a little loose on the back nine. I do not think I hit any of the last four greens but I kept getting up and down," Bridgeman said. Having the lead after day one of a three day championship is uncharted waters for Bridgeman, "I have led overnight in some two day events but not a three day. I do not think I need to change much."

 

A trio of juniors find themselves just two shots back after the first round. Levi Moody of Greenville, S.C. had the round of the day going before stumbling to the finish line. Moody was five-under-par at one point but suffered back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 16 and 17 to finish with a one-under-par 71. "I was playing aggressive off the tee, it was a rough finish but other than that I played well," Moody said. Joining him at one-under-par is Avery Price of Gastonia, N.C. "I did not have my best stuff but I bounded it together and survived," Price said. The final player at one-under-par is Viraj Garwell of Raleigh, N.C. "I played steady, I made a few mistakes but overall I can't complain," Garwell said.  

 

The second round begins on Wednesday morning at 8 am off #1 and #10 and the field will be reduced to the low 60 and ties after round two.
