Crenshaw Holds 3 Shot NC Mid-Am Lead
Matthew Crenshaw of Burlington Holds Three Shot Lead
MILL SPRING, NC - Second round results of the 22nd North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Bright’s Creek Golf Club in Mill Spring, NC on Saturday, August 29, 2015 (7019 yards, par 36-36—72, 73.2/142).
Matthew Crenshaw of Burlington fired a four-under 68 (138) to take a three shot lead heading into the final round at Bright’s Creek. Crenshaw is playing in his first event in almost 10 months due to recovering from wrist surgery earlier this year. The six-time CGA champion is seeking his first North Carolina Mid-Amateur title.
Defending champion Joe Jaspers of Huntersville carded an even par 72 and is in a tie for second place along with 2015 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball finalist Greg Earnhardt of Greensboro at 141.
Only five players were able to break par on the Tom Fazio design after two rounds.
The field was cut to the low 60 scores and ties for Sunday’s final round. Cutline fell at twelve-over par 156 with 62 players advancing to the final round.
North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 30th birthday, is a legal resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club that does not exceed 5.4.
